Event 2: HORSE-Play Paused

$350 + $50 HORSE

The HORSEs have called it a night and bagged their chips.

Antonio Bueti (Mt. Kisco, NY) is the chip leader with 63,400.

HORSE-play will resume at 1pm Friday, but it is unclear whether that will be in the Event Center or the Poker Room.

Unofficially, 163 players entered this event.  Approximately 115 survived, making the average stack about 21k.

The complete list of chip counts will be posted later in the morning.

Event 1: End of Day 1B Chip Leader

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

The chip bags have arrived from the poker room and the winner of the $10,000 bonus for Day 1B chip lead is Jonathan Kim with 926,000.

Day two begins at 1pm Friday here in the Event Center with the combined survivors of days 1A and 1B.

Event 2: HORSEament

$350 + $50 HORSE

Down to 15 tables (9-handed) remaining in the HORSE tournament.

A couple more familiar faces have popped up, including Justin Finberg (Pittsburgh, PA) who has two cashes in HORSEaments here at Borgata and Yuebin Guo (Brooklyn, NY).

Yuebin is one of only four players to hold three Borgata Open titles, two in Omaha H/L and one in HORSE.  He won two of those titles during a single open series in Spring 2012 and is one of only three players to accomplish that feat.

Event 1: Chip Leader??

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

The last hands are wrapping up here in the Event Center and they have verified that Norman Nichalek is the upstairs chip leader with 802k.

However...

Someone downstairs is reported to have 926k, which would be the overall chip lead, good for the $10,000 bonus.  Still waiting for that to be verified and get a name.

Event 1: New Event Center Leader

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

On a 7-high flop, Ron Vitello and Norman Nichalek (Westfield, NJ) went to battle.  All the chips went in and Ron's Q7 (top pair) was no good against Norman's pocket Aces.

Norman Nichalek

Norman doubled up to ~570k, leaving former chip leader Ron with ~300k.

Norman got the rest of Ron's chips on a subsequent hand and Ron busted out.  Norman chipped up to ~815k, good for the upstairs chip lead.

Rumor has floated up from the poker room that someone down there is over 900k.

With ten minutes left in the level, all tables will play four more hands, then bag for the night.

Event 2: Lead HORSE

$350 + $50 HORSE

The HORSEs finished up level eight and took a break while the green 25 chips were colored up.

Miami John has already busted out.

 Michael Cringoli

Michael Cringoli (Raritan, NJ) appears to be the chip leader with ~45k, three times the starting stack of 15k.

James Boyd has turned up in the field, along with Howard Crash (Weston, CT) who finished second in the Golden Nugget's HORSE event in June ($4,675).

After the break, they'll return to level 9 with limits of 600/1,200.

Event 1: Schwartz Sacked

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Original November Niner Ylon Schwartz ($3.7 million for finishing 4th in the 2008 WSOP Main Event) got his last few chips in with K3 and got action from a player holding A4.

It was all but over when the flop came A 4 x, giving his opponent Aces-up.

Ylon (Austin, TX) headed for the exit.

24 tables remain active here in the Event Center.  An unknown number are still active down in the Poker Room.

Level 16:  Blinds 2k/4k with 500 ante.

This is the last level of the night.

Event 1: Regulars Remaining

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Lots of Borgata Regulars and tournament grinders are still rolling in this event, including

James Boyle
Barry Leventhal

Lance Funston
Nick Petrangelo
Cornel Cimpan
Joe Pitti
Vincent Basilicata
Satish Surapaneni

Event 1: Blinds Up, Vitello's Up, Tables Down

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 15:  Blinds 1,500/3,000 with 400 ante.

Ron Vitello has distanced himself from the field.  He's up to about 600k, which is more than the day 1A  chip leader had at the end of the night.

Carlton Brumm won the $10,000 bonus on day 1A with 593,500.

Not sure about the stacks down in the poker room and we won't know until the end of play.

Only 29 tables remain active in the Event Center.

Event 1: Three More Levels

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Players have just returned from a 15 minute break, which was their last break of the night.

Level 14:  Blinds 1,200/2,400 with 300 ante.  They will play three levels, then call it a night.

34 tables remain active in the Event Center.  24 tables are still playing down in the poker room.  That's 58 tables with about 575 players.

They will not be able to move those Poker Room tables upstairs like they did last night, so the field will still be split at the end of play.

Event 2: It's a HORSE Race on 15

$350 + $50 HORSE

Table 15 is stocked with some serious HORSE-players.  Seated there are

Glenn Engelbert - 2 time Borgata Open winner
Iverson 'Cotton' Snuffer
Chris Reslock
Robert Varkonyi

They're about to start level 6 with Limits of 300/600.

Event 1: Big Action on Table Nine

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

"Hold, One Time!" I hear, and rush over to table 9 where Alik Sitnyakovsky (Brooklyn, NY) is involved in a three-way pre-flop all-in.

Seat 1 was the short-stack and all-in with KQ.  Mark Bramley (Boston, MA) was all-in for 41,600 more with AQ.

Mark Bramley smiles as he stacks chips

Alik had them both covered and was ahead with pocket tens.

The board ran out 8 6 6 5 A and Mark paired his Ace on the river to take the pot, more than doubling up to ~160k.

Alik was left with ~165k.  "But you shoulda seen the flip I won before" Alik says.

On the earlier hand, Alik opened for 4k, Jimmy Perez (New York, NY) shoved for ~36k, Mark Bramley flatted, then Alik shoved for ~100k.  Mark called.

Alik was ahead with pocket Queens, Jimmy had pocket 8s, and Mark had AK.  Jimmy made a straight on the river to survive and triple up.  Alik took the side pot with his Queens.

Event 1: Blinds Up, Tables Down

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 13:  Blinds 1k/2k with 300 ante.

Table 40 just broke in the Event Center, so 39 tables remain up here, with an unknown number still in action down in the Poker Room.

Event 2: Big-Name Horses

$350 + $50 HORSE

The HORSE-players were late getting out of the gate, but that didn't stop them from bringing out the big guns.

Miami John Cernuto - 3 WSOP bracelets
Chris Reslock - 2007 WSOP 7-Stud World Champion

Event 1: Tough Break

 $500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

(left) Unkown Player Pleads His Case, While Surapaneni (right) Waits

An unfortunate set of circumstances sends one player to the rail visibly upset.

On a board of A♦ 6♥ 6♣ J♦, Satish Surapaneni (New York, NY) bets 30k and the anonymous player moves all in for 36k total. Surapaneni doesn't declare his intention, but tables A♠ Q♣, two pairs, aces & sixes with a queen kicker.

His opponent turns over A♥ J♥ for a higher two pairs.

The dealer burn and turns, putting the 7♥ on the river, appearing to give the other player the winning hand.  But because Surapaneni never verbalized he was calling, the premature river means the hand isn't over and he can still fold or call.

After weighing his options, Surapaneni calls 6k to try and win a 100k pot knowing the 7♥ will go back in the deck and another river card will be revealed.  Premature action dictates this protocol and Surapaneni still has a chance to win the hand.

The new river card is the Q♥ and the table erupts as Surapaneni hits a three-outer for a higher two pairs to eliminate his opponent.

After stating his case to multiple officials, the ruling stands and the player leaves angry and frustrated.

Event 1: Dinner's Done

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

They will play through level 16, then call it a night.

The player bagging the most chips at the end of the day will collect a $10,000 bonus!

Nightly Tournament

Hegarty Having a Good Time

While the two main events are on dinner break, it gives us a chance to highlight one player in the nightly tournament.

Georgette Hegarty (Old Bridge, NJ) is an avid follower of the Borgata Poker Blog while at home and loves getting updates on her future son-in-law Seth Zimmerman (New York, NY).

Tonight Hegarty is trading in her internet connection so she can trade chips at the table.  She's in town to support Zimmerman who bagged 156k (39 BB) on Day 1A and will be in action when play resumes Friday at 1 pm.

So far, so good for Hegarty who says she plays when she can, but wouldn't let the groom-to-be bankroll her into the tournament.  A player at the table was quick to point out that this way Hegarty gets to keep all the profit.

Event 2: Dinner Break

$350 + $50 HORSE

Players are on a one hour dinner break, giving Borgata Babe Holly a chance to catch her breath.

Holly has Drinks for Players

Event 1: Dinner!

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

A crowd of very happy poker players are pouring out of the Poker Room with their $10 dinner vouchers in hand, calling them the 'new min-cash'.

Nevertheless, making it to the dinner break in a field like this is quite an accomplishment.

34 tables remain active in the Poker Room.

Dinner is one hour and play will resume at 8:45pm.

Event 1: Ron's Run Good Continues

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

 Inside Vitello's Mind

While Inside the Minds (ITM) instructor Lee Childs is on the rail, his pearls of wisdom are paying dividends for his students.

Ron Vitello (Cherry Hill, NJ) took the course earlier this week and is now one of the big stacks on the dinner break.

Vitello is up to 344k after knocking out 8 players, including a hand where he got lucky with QQ vs KK and turned a set of queens to win a 150k chip pot.

While Childs doesn't teach luck, he did provide Vitello with a lucky moment when his name was selected in a random drawing of the class participants. Vitello's prize: entry into Event 1.

Vitello was no slouch before taking the class as he finished 4th ($5,000) in an event during the 2011 Borgata Fall Poker Open. That was his second career cash following the WPT circuit ring he won in 2009.

Event 1: That's Poker

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Inside The Minds instructor Lee Childs (Alexandria, VA) got his last chips in with pocket Jacks, but ran into pocket Aces.

Lee rivered a set, but unfortunately his opponent had already turned a better set.

One table over, Mike Dentale (Brooklyn, NY) is faring better.  His 100k bluff got called but he managed to pull it out making two pair on the river.

Players are getting antsy as the dinner break is coming up soon at the end of this level.

Event 1: Lau Gone

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Edwin Lau (Philadelphia, PA) arrived in the Boardroom to take a seat at the table with Jordan Ludwick and Steven Rodriguez.

Steven Rodriguez & Edwin Lau

Edwin arrived with a short-stack and before long, he found his chips all-in pre-flop from the button.

He had 43 suited and was in bad shape against a player with pocket 8s.

His opponent flopped a set and Edwin didn't improve.  He was busted.

Edwin was runner-up in the $300 NL Deep Stack Turbo during the 2011 Winter Open ($14k) and has several more final table appearances here, but is still looking for his first Borgata Open title.
