Event 8: Calling All Ladies

$260 + $40 Ladies No Limit Hold'em

One of the more gregarious events during the Borgata Poker Open is the women's tournament. The Ladies Event, along with the Seniors, is more about camaraderie than check-raises.

Don't mistake the friendliness for lack of competition as the ladies are still looking for that Borgata trophy.

Players start with 12k in chips and levels are 30 minutes each.

This one-day tournament is underway.

Event 7: Is That Allen Cunningham?

$260 + $40 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty All In or Fold NLH (Re-Entry)

Cunningham Checking Out All In or Fold

Believe it or not, five time WSOP bracelet holder Allen Cunningham (Las Vegas, NV) is in the field.

When asked why, he simply says, "I came to play the tournaments and this is one they have."

With $10 million in career earnings, Cunningham is the most accomplished player in the field, but he's not the only tournament millionaire.  Steve Dannenmann (Severn, MD), a Borgata trophy winner, has $4.6 million on his resume, the bulk of which came as runner-up in the 2005 WSOP Main Event.

"I've been playing poker for 15 years," says Cunningham, "I haven't been all-in, but I have folded."

Event 7: Fun Done

$260 + $40 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty All In or Fold NLH (Re-Entry)

Feldherr (right) Shows His Short Stack

As much as Craig Feldherr (Merrick, NY) wanted to take a break from thinking poker, his day is done.  His AJ is against the AK (yes, all in!) of Joseph Prianti (Centereach, NY) and he doesn't get any help.

Feldherr does have his opponent covered by 400 chips and gets to stick around, but is knocked out the next hand.  Ryan Clark (Hurricane, WV) finishes the job and picks up the bounty saying it was the "easiest $50 I ever made."

Also on the rail is Ted Geier (Sunnyside, NY) who was in the tournament for all of 30 seconds.  In a three-way pot Geier's KK is against 88 and AQ. An ace on the river knocks out Geier and the player with pocket 8s.

Event 7: All In or Fold!

$260 + $40 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty All In or Fold NLH (Re-Entry)

Back by popular demand, the All In or Fold tournament is now a Main Event.  The premier of this tournament was a side event during the Borgata Summer Poker Open and the wild success has it prominently featured on the schedule.

As the title suggests, players have only two options, they can either move all their chips into the middle or they can fold.

"After grinding for two straight days my brain is fried," says Craig Feldherr (Merrick, NY), "this should be a lot of fun."

Players start with 10k in chips and early levels are 30 minutes each (Levels 16+ / 40 min.)

Each knockout earns player the $50 (2 green chips) bounty and his one-day tournament has re-entry available for the first six levels.

Event 5: Recap

Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

After a long and arduous grind of nearly a full day (20+ hours) of non-stop poker we crown John Hinds (Greensville, NC) the champion of Event 5 of the 2012 Borgata Poker Open - claiming the $68,871 first place prize after beating Larry Samet (Wellesley, MA) heads up.  "I lost a couple of key hands and was 3rd place in chips when we were 3-handed, but I was able to grind my way back to the chip lead," said Hinds.

Hinds had relinquished his chip lead (which he held through a good chunk of the final table) when his 55 lost to Samet's Q♠7♠ when Samet made the spade flush on the river.  But Hinds never gave up and got most of his chips back by winning a race against Samet when his AQ hit the Ace on the flop against Samet's pocket 7s.  Hinds says he never had a huge stack, but was just able to grind and maneuver his way through the 882 players that entered this event and take home the champion's share of the $308,700 prize pool.  The $68,871 top prize is his biggest cash to date.

Hinds had gone deep in a few Borgata Poker Open events during this time last year.  He lasted through Day 4 of the 2011 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship Event, finishing in 21st place for $18,868.  His previous biggest cash of $25,216 was also right here at the Borgata at the 2011 Borgata Fall Poker Open, finishing in 4th place in a $400 event.  With today's 1st place prize, John Hinds' lifetime Borgata tournament winnings to date is a very impressive $135,401.  Hinds has been playing poker professionally for 1 1/2 years, and today's win will undoubtedly reinforce and provide extremely strong evidence that he chose the right career path.  Once again, congrats to John Hinds...winner of Event 5 of the 2012 Borgata Poker Open!

Event 5: And our Winner is....John Hinds!!

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

John Hinds (Greensville, NC)  - 1st place $68,871

After nearly 21 hours of straight grinding, our Event 5 champion is crowned.  Congratulations to poker pro John Hinds (Greensville, NC) on taking down the trophy and the awesome top prize of $68,871!!!

Event 5: All Tripped Up, Then Flushed Away. 2nd place - Larry Samet

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Larry Samet (Wellesley, MA)  - $40,125

Going into heads up play, John Hinds (Greensville, NC) and Larry Samet (Wellesley, MA) are very close in chips, with Hinds holding a slight advantage (less than 2 million separated the 2 stacks).  On the final hand, all 17.6 million in chips ended up in the middle by the time the flop was dealt.

    Hinds:  9♦9♣
    Samet:  10♠4♣

The flop was 4♦5♦4♥, giving Samet trip 4s, but the Q♦ turn and J♦ river gave Hinds runner-runner diamonds to complete his flush and complete his capture of the Event 5 championship trophy.  Samet finishes as runner-up and gets to take home $40,125 as his impressive consolation prize.  Great run Larry!

Event 5: No Win for Nguyen's All-In - 3rd place finish for Chin Nguyen

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Chin Nguyen (Silver Spring, MD) - $24,554

Blinds are at 120k/240k/30k.  Chin Nguyen (Silver Spring, MD) raises from the small blind.  John Hinds (Greensville, NC) puts in a re-raise, at which point Nguyen announces all-in.  Hinds thinks it over for a moment before deciding to look up Nguyen.  After the cards are flipped over, we see that Nguyen shoved with the A♣3♥, and Hinds decided to look him up with the K♣J♠.  By fifth street the community cards are 5♥7♦J♥K♣5♣, and Hinds makes 2 pair to eliminate Nguyen in 3rd place..earning him $24,554.  Congratulations!

Event 5: Hinds Doubles Back Through Samet

The chips Larry Samet took from John Hinds have found their way back to Hinds's stack.  Hinds pushed all in with 3.5 million.  Samet took a little bit of time to make his decision and called.  It was a race with Hinds holding AQ vs Samet's 7s.  The ace on the flop woke up the Hinds followers and it held up getting Hinds back to the 7 million chip mark.

These three players have been playing since 11am yesterday.  After 20 hours in the books, we play on three handed......

    Event 5: Fives Get Flushed

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

The blinds are at 100k/200k/30k ante.  John Hinds (Greensville, NC) is in the small blind and makes it 500k to go.  Larry Samet (Wellesley, MA) calls from the big.  Flop comes 10♠3♠2♥ and Hinds checks.  Samet bets 1.5 million.  Hinds then goes over the top and announces all-in...and Samet snap calls.  Hinds flips over his 55, but sees that Samet has many outs when he tables Q♠7♠ for 2 overcards, and of course the flush draw.  The 5♥ on the turn actually gives Hinds a set and takes away 6 of Samet's outs...but he still has the flush draw, which (unfortunately for Hinds) comes to fruition when the J♠ hits the river.  Samet now has over 10 million in chips and is the chip leader at this 3-handed final table.

Event 5: Lussier out in 4th

Roger Lussier decided to make an all-in push on the button over a very tired Chin Nguyen's big blind.  Nguyen counted out the chips to make the call twice and then went for it.  Lussier turned over A3 and Nguyen took the stab with 89♥.

The suited connector play paid off as the board ran J-Q-5-7-10 for the straight.  Lussier said "Now I can go bed" and walked out of the Events Center $20,212 richer.

Roger Lussier - East Islip, NY - $20,212

    Event 5: Big (Blind) Bully

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

John Hinds (Greensville, NC), who has been a frequent pre-flop aggressor, raises to 350k from the button.  Roger Lussier (East Islip, NY) is in the small blind and calls.  Larry Samet (Wellesley, MA) then three bets an additional 900k on top from the big.  Hinds folds from the button but Lussier calls the re-raise.  J♠Q♥8♣ comes on the flop.  Lussier checks the action over to Samet, who then bets a cool 1 million from the big blind.  Lussier throws his cards in the muck and Samet scoops up the pot.

Event 5: Don't Tread on Me

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

With the blinds at 80k/160k/20k ante, Roger Lussier - (East Islip, NY) calls a preflop raise from John Hinds (Greensville, NC).  The flop is 10♥9♥8♣ and Hinds, who is first to act, bets out 300k.  Lussier then three bets another 1 million on top, and Hinds quickly folds.

    Event 5: Updated Chip Counts

With four players remaining, here are the chip counts.

    John Hinds - 6.5 million
    Chin Nguyen - 4.5 million
    Larry Samet - 3.8 million
    Roger Lussier - 3.3 million

Event 5: Bad Orbit for Herrold - Out in 5th

A nightmarish orbit for Peter Herold as two hands ended his event.

First, Herold wnet all in over the top of Larry Samet who called.  Herold had the lead hold A5 against Samet's KJ.  Unfortunately for Herold, Samet hit a king on the flop and running tens crippled Herold.

Herold then went all in after Chin Nguyen's bet.  Herold was trailing with A7♠ against Nguyen's AK♥.

The flop hit Nguyen's king but with two spades on the board the door was open for Herold to survive.  But no help came and Peter Herold headed out the door in 5th place but $16,469 in his pocket.

    Peter Herold - Brooklyn, NY - $16,469

Event 5: Ride 'Em Cowboys - Seth Sokol out in 6th

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Seth Sokol (Staten Island, NY) - $13,475 (6th place)

Roger Lussier (East Islip, NY) raises to 285k.  Seth Sokol (Staten Island, NY) shoves about 1 million and Lussier calls.  Sokol tables A4 but is well behind the KK of Lussier.  The board runs clean for Lussier and Sokol is eliminated in 6th place, making $13,475 for his efforts in today's tournament.  Congratulations!

Event 5: 9's Are Fine for Hinds - Kijoon Park Eliminated in 7th Place

John Hinds continues his dominating run in Event 5 eliminating another player in dramatic fashion.

Peter Herold raises to 300k and Kijoon Park goes all in.  Hinds then pushes all in.  Herold gets out of the way quickly to avoid disaster.

Hinds shows pocket 9's and Park flips over AJ.

The board comes out J-6-9 pairing Park and giving Hinds a set.  An ace hits on the turn giving even more outs to Park but the river card is a 4 and Kijoon Park is out in 7th for a payday of $10,780.  Hinds is now hiding behind a mountain of chips.....

Kijoon Park - New York, NY - $10,780

    Event 5: Blind Battle

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Action folds to Kijoon Park (New York, NY) in the small blind, who makes it 300k to go.  John Hinds (Greensville, NC) makes the call from the big.  K♦8♦K♥ comes on the flop.  Park bets 300k once again and Hinds makes the call once again.  The turn is the 5♣.  Park checks.  Hinds bets out 425k.  Park thinks it over for about a minute before relinquishing his hand.  Hinds now has just over 5 million in chips and is clearly the chip leader.

    Event 5: Blind Defense

    Event 5 -  $350 + $50 Big Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

John Hinds (Greensville, NC) makes it 225k to go with the blinds at 50k/100k/10k ante.  Peter Herold (Brooklyn, NY) calls from the big blind.  Flop comes 9♥6♠K♥ and Peter checks.  Hinds bets 200k and Herold makes the call.  The turn brings the 8♣ and both players check.  The 3♣ comes on the river and it is checked down again.  Hinds announces "Ace"...but Herold turns over 6♦7♠ to scoop up the pot with a pair of 6s.

Event 5: Eliminations Fast and Furious - Nick Drosos Out in 8th

No time to blink - a crippled Nick Drosos took his shot with 4's and was cut down by a difficult board by Chin Nguyen running 8-8-9-9-5 counterfeiting his pair and ending a solid effort in today's Event 5 and picking up $8,085.

    Nick Drosos - Cleveland, OH - $8,085

Event 5: Justin Nasatir out in 9th ($5,689)

Shortly after the elimination of Jason Nablo, Justin Nasatir put himself in danger and the John Hinds Express kept rolling.  Nasatir's AJ faced off with Hinds AK.  Hinds's hand held and Nasatir is out in 9th place.

    Justin Nasatir - Washington, DC - $5,689

Event 5: Nablo Eliminated in 10th

Jason Nablo of Niagara Falls, NY was eliminated in 10th place.  Larry Samet raised and Nablo pushed all-in.  Samet snap-called with pocket aces.  No help came and Nablo is your 10th place finisher.

Jason Nablo - Niagara Falls, NY - 3,743

    Event 5: Final Table!
