$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Level 15: Blinds 1,500/3,000 with 400 ante.
Ron Vitello has distanced himself from the field. He's up to about 600k, which is more than the day 1A chip leader had at the end of the night.
Carlton Brumm won the $10,000 bonus on day 1A with 593,500.
Not sure about the stacks down in the poker room and we won't know until the end of play.
Only 29 tables remain active in the Event Center.

Event 1: Three More Levels
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Players have just returned from a 15 minute break, which was their last break of the night.
Level 14: Blinds 1,200/2,400 with 300 ante. They will play three levels, then call it a night.
34 tables remain active in the Event Center. 24 tables are still playing down in the poker room. That's 58 tables with about 575 players.
They will not be able to move those Poker Room tables upstairs like they did last night, so the field will still be split at the end of play.

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
"Hold, One Time!" I hear, and rush over to table 9 where Alik Sitnyakovsky (Brooklyn, NY) is involved in a three-way pre-flop all-in.
Seat 1 was the short-stack and all-in with KQ. Mark Bramley (Boston, MA) was all-in for 41,600 more with AQ.
Alik had them both covered and was ahead with pocket tens.
The board ran out 8 6 6 5 A and Mark paired his Ace on the river to take the pot, more than doubling up to ~160k.
Alik was left with ~165k. "But you shoulda seen the flip I won before" Alik says.
On the earlier hand, Alik opened for 4k, Jimmy Perez (New York, NY) shoved for ~36k, Mark Bramley flatted, then Alik shoved for ~100k. Mark called.
Alik was ahead with pocket Queens, Jimmy had pocket 8s, and Mark had AK. Jimmy made a straight on the river to survive and triple up. Alik took the side pot with his Queens.

Event 1: Tough Break

(left) Unkown Player Pleads His Case, While Surapaneni (right) Waits
An unfortunate set of circumstances sends one player to the rail visibly upset.
On a board of A♦ 6♥ 6♣ J♦, Satish Surapaneni (New York, NY) bets 30k and the anonymous player moves all in for 36k total. Surapaneni doesn't declare his intention, but tables A♠ Q♣, two pairs, aces & sixes with a queen kicker.
His opponent turns over A♥ J♥ for a higher two pairs.
The dealer burn and turns, putting the 7♥ on the river, appearing to give the other player the winning hand. But because Surapaneni never verbalized he was calling, the premature river means the hand isn't over and he can still fold or call.
After weighing his options, Surapaneni calls 6k to try and win a 100k pot knowing the 7♥ will go back in the deck and another river card will be revealed. Premature action dictates this protocol and Surapaneni still has a chance to win the hand.
The new river card is the Q♥ and the table erupts as Surapaneni hits a three-outer for a higher two pairs to eliminate his opponent.
After stating his case to multiple officials, the ruling stands and the player leaves angry and frustrated.

Nightly Tournament
While the two main events are on dinner break, it gives us a chance to highlight one player in the nightly tournament.
Georgette Hegarty (Old Bridge, NJ) is an avid follower of the Borgata Poker Blog while at home and loves getting updates on her future son-in-law Seth Zimmerman (New York, NY).
Tonight Hegarty is trading in her internet connection so she can trade chips at the table. She's in town to support Zimmerman who bagged 156k (39 BB) on Day 1A and will be in action when play resumes Friday at 1 pm.
So far, so good for Hegarty who says she plays when she can, but wouldn't let the groom-to-be bankroll her into the tournament. A player at the table was quick to point out that this way Hegarty gets to keep all the profit.

A crowd of very happy poker players are pouring out of the Poker Room with their $10 dinner vouchers in hand, calling them the 'new min-cash'.
Nevertheless, making it to the dinner break in a field like this is quite an accomplishment.
34 tables remain active in the Poker Room.
Dinner is one hour and play will resume at 8:45pm.

Event 1: Ron's Run Good Continues
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
While Inside the Minds (ITM) instructor Lee Childs is on the rail, his pearls of wisdom are paying dividends for his students.
Ron Vitello (Cherry Hill, NJ) took the course earlier this week and is now one of the big stacks on the dinner break.
Vitello is up to 344k after knocking out 8 players, including a hand where he got lucky with QQ vs KK and turned a set of queens to win a 150k chip pot.
While Childs doesn't teach luck, he did provide Vitello with a lucky moment when his name was selected in a random drawing of the class participants. Vitello's prize: entry into Event 1.
Vitello was no slouch before taking the class as he finished 4th ($5,000) in an event during the 2011 Borgata Fall Poker Open. That was his second career cash following the WPT circuit ring he won in 2009.

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Inside The Minds instructor Lee Childs (Alexandria, VA) got his last chips in with pocket Jacks, but ran into pocket Aces.
Lee rivered a set, but unfortunately his opponent had already turned a better set.
One table over, Mike Dentale (Brooklyn, NY) is faring better. His 100k bluff got called but he managed to pull it out making two pair on the river.
Players are getting antsy as the dinner break is coming up soon at the end of this level.

Event 1: Lau Gone
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Edwin Lau (Philadelphia, PA) arrived in the Boardroom to take a seat at the table with Jordan Ludwick and Steven Rodriguez.
Edwin arrived with a short-stack and before long, he found his chips all-in pre-flop from the button.
He had 43 suited and was in bad shape against a player with pocket 8s.
His opponent flopped a set and Edwin didn't improve. He was busted.
Edwin was runner-up in the $300 NL Deep Stack Turbo during the 2011 Winter Open ($14k) and has several more final table appearances here, but is still looking for his first Borgata Open title.

No idea who the chip leader is at this point, but I spotted Marty Robbins (Lincoln, NH) with a lot of those pink-ish 10k chips.
He's up to almost 200k. "Even a blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut" Marty says.
Marty comes to Borgata for the poker and just couldn't pass up this monster event.
Unofficially, the total number of entries, including both starting days and all the re-entries, is over 3,700.

Brewer takes her stack from 80k to 180k, while Eng is done for the day.

Poker Room tables are breaking down. All the tournament tables in the high limit room are gone. Those tables are now being filled by some very patient cash game players, many of whom have busted out of this event.
I came across table 104 and have dubbed it the toughest in the room.
Adam Agaev - 2011 Summer Open $170 Deep Stack winner
Amnon Filippi - about $3 million in reported lifetime tournament earnings
Dan Buzgon - currently appearing on TV in his second WPT final table of Season X.

Event 1: 25 Chips Out, 25k Chips In
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
In a rare occurrence, the 25k copper chips were in play at the same time as the 25 green chips. The field of 3,500+ necessitated bringing out the big unit chips to accommodate the nearly 90 million chips in play.
During Level 9 (400/800/75 ante) the following chips were in play:
Denomination-Color
25 Green
100 Black
500 Purple
1k Orange
5k Gray
10k Flesh
25k Copper
The array of colors is making it very difficult to pinpoint a chip leader, but we did get a report from Jason Acosta (Little Ferry, NJ) who's at 175k.
Let the hunt begin!

Event 1: Big Names In the Back
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Mark Wahba (Cleveland, OH) 2-time Borgata Open winner and 2012 Spring Open Leaderboard winner is seated in the very back corner of the Poker Room.
He's sharing the felt with Phong 'VIP' Nguyen (Bristow, VA) who finished 3rd in the 2012 Spring Open $400 Big Stack NL event ($11k) which is one of the events that Mark Wahba won ($32k).
So these two have some experience playing against each other.
Today they're being entertained by another player who calls himself "Dear Leader" from Pyong Yang, North Korea (he looks nothing like either Kim Jong-il or Kim Jong-un).
He's on his fifth beer and said "This is my strategy" as he proudly showed me the empties.
*** Update: Dear Leader has busted out, so I guess that strategy did not work out for him. His empty seat has been filled by Pofuk Ying (Highland Park, NJ) who finished 2nd in the $200 Deep Stack NL event during the 2012 Summer Open ($19k).

Event 1: Aces Hold x 2
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Making a sweep of the Event Center we saw something that most players won't believe, if you listen to their complaints, as pocket aces hold on two different tables.
Russel Kaplan (Bellmore, NY) triples his 32k in a hand with aces vs kings vs queens. The side pot goes to the player with kings, but he leaves the table so fast he's not even aware that he has 4k chips remaining. The anonymous player's stack will be blinded off unless he returns.
In the front of the room Antonino Payne (Hazlet, NJ) goes from 26k to 62k when his pocket aces hold, proving that pocket rockets aren't the cursed hand as many perceive.

Event 1: Poker Room Action
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
All the tables in the poker room are in action, but now that registration is closed and the re-entry period is over, they should start opening up.
Lana O'Brien, (Englishtown, NJ) who won the 2011 Borgata Fall Open Ladies event ($6,694) while 9 months pregnant, is doing her part to thin the herd.
Playing 250/500/50 ante:
After a middle position player opened for 1,500 and another called, Lana (cutoff) raised to 5k straight.
Action folded back to the opener, who folded. The cold-caller gave it some thought, then re-raised to 15k.
Lana wasted no time moving all-in for another 27k+, which had her opponent well covered. He committed the last of his chips, showing pocket 4s.
Lana was out in front with pocket Queens.
The board ran out 9 8 5 5 3 and Lana's Ladies were good. She chipped up to ~90k, busting her opponent in the process.
Blinds are now up to 400/800 with 75 ante.

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
James Nguyen (Portland, ME) knew it was going to be a long night and day, but says it's worth it.
"Million guarantee," he says when asked why he's making his first trip to Borgata.
Nguyen hasn't slept in more than 24 hours and drove eight hours overnight after finishing his pizza delivery shift at 11 pm.
Nguyen shows he's still awake as he doubles up with pocket jacks against Joe Wertz (Brigantine, NJ) who is eliminated when he loses his AQ coin flip.
Nguyen says there will be plenty of time to sleep after grinding his way towards the $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

Former Borgata winners Manh Nguyen (Munhall, PA) and Vinny Pahuja (New York, NY) have both tweeted that they busted the tournament. While another former winner, Mike Dentale (Brooklyn, NY), still has chips, but laments how unlucky he is.
Michael Dentale @Mikunbelievable

The always smiling Shamseddin made a run at the $10,000 prize for being the end of day chip leader, but his volatile stack was gone before midnight.
"It was $10,000," said the always smiling Shamseddin, "I had to go for it."

Event 1: Early Double Up
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
After the first hand of the day, Frank Williams (Middle Island, NY) stops by media row to say he's doubled-up. "Thanks for playing," says Williams as he can't believe his good fortune.
Williams account of the hand is that he was holding J 10 and flopped the nut straight. The turn is a queen and that's when the fireworks went off.
Williams' opponent bet 1,600, Williams raised to 3,800, opponent moves all in for his entire 25k stack, and Williams snap calls.
The opponent tables A Q for top pair, top kicker which is no good after the river.
Williams is at 50k and says the player next to him asked, "is that your uncle." It certainly looks like a family gift.

Event 1: Tournament SOLD OUT
$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Players have expressed how impressed and overwhelmed they are at the turnout for the $1 MILLION GUARANTEED event to kick off the Borgata Poker Open.
"This tournament is sold out," says Tournament Director Tab Duchateau as players enter the Event Center for Day 1B. Players wanting to get in were provided a limited number of alternate tickets, which were issued after the last seats were sold at 10:15 am.
"I've never seen anything like it," says Phil Neiman (New York, NY). "This is crazy."
Neiman says he busted from Day 1A after midnight and got in line at 6:30 am to grab one of the 500 seats sold this morning. Registration closed after ~1,600 Day 1B seats were sold, as officials need to accommodate players who bustout and wish to re-enter.
Despite 170 poker tables on property, the finite number of tables preclude additional seats from being sold.
