Hyon Kim's big move didn't work out.
Kim had been raising John Andress's big blind for most of three-handed play. This time, he decided to put Andress to the test going all in and Andress quickly called.
Andress had A10 vs Kim's QJ of hearts. Andress hit top pair on the A-K-3 flop but Kim also hit two hearts along with the straight draw.
But after an 8-6 turn/river, Andress doubled to 720k and left Kim on the short stack against the two Borgata veterans.

"Did you really call me with a 7?" he said. Reggie sat quietly and waited. Eventually his opponent called.
Reggie showed pocket 6s for the full boat. His opponent mucked in disgust and headed out for dinner.

Event 17: Wentling Gets A Gift
$1,500 + 150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em
After the hand with Pahuja, Austin Wentling would be all-in pre in a multi way pot with Hyon Kim and Thomas Hoglund (there was a 30,000 side pot). The flop came out 8 8 2 and after Kim had checked, Hoglund bet out 100,000. Kim seemed almost taken back by the bet with a player all-in, thought very long and hard, and then folded showing 10 10. Austin flipped over 4 4, and to Kim's dismay Hoglund showed A Q. Wentling would of been out in 7th place if the players went check-check, but Hoglund's bet won Austin the pot.

Papola had just shoved into Matt Brady, but Brady folded to the all-in. In the next hand Papola limped for the 2,400, and Austin Wentling (Monroeville, PA) raised out of the small blind. When it folded back to Papola he put in his stack of grey (5,000 denomination chip), and Wentling immediately called showing 10 10. Papola turned over 7 7, but also made notice that he wasn't yet all in (he had about 5,000 left in his hand). The flop came out A 3 4 rainbow, and Wentling then went all-in for the rest of Papola's chips. Papola thought for just a few moments and called off the rest. He couldm't find any help and is out of the tournament in 17th.

Players start with 20k in chips and the early levels are 50 minutes each (Levels 11+ / 1 hr.).
This is a two-day event with re-entry available for the first four levels.

Event 18 Recap
$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)
Karl Held (Queens, NY) held the chip lead when the final table was formed, but as Jake 'the Snake' Ferro (S Syracuse, NY) busted out five players on the way to getting heads-up, he amassed the larger stack. The chip lead changed hands a couple of times, but Ferro had all the chips when it counted. He took the win and $22,263.
Karl Held took second and $12,368. He's normally buying and selling office furniture or playing blackjack. This is his biggest tournament cash ever, but he doesn't get to play a lot. "I'd like to play more, but you know, the wife..." Perhaps this windfall will help sway her.
Third place and $7,670 went to Joseph Gergus (Orwigsburg, PA) who manages a gas station. He only plays occasionally when he's got some time. Today he played a very conservative game, which is difficult in the speedy format of the Semi-Turbo.
327 entries generated total buy-ins of $85,020. The final 36 players got a piece of the pie. Among those were Borgata tournament frequent fliers Keith Crowder, (8th - $2,433) Elliott Zaydman, (12th - $1,072) David Zeitlin, (14th - $825) Michael Marder, (25th - $619) and Mike Holm (33rd - $495).
Jake Ferro had to skip out of work to play this event, but since he works for his father's trucking dispatch company, he'll get a pass. Ferro's not sharing his winnings, but "I'll treat him to a nice dinner, or a round of golf".

Event 16: Recap
$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em
Borgata's version of "September Madness" was in action, and although there were no office pools handing out blank brackets to fill out, everyone who walked into the Event Center took time to look at the bracket. We started with 64 spots and now have our winner, Kyle Frey (Cheshire, CT). Kyle defeated Joshua Templeton (Cleveland, TN) and took home $40,352 and the coveted Event 16 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em trophy. "I planned on arriving here to play in this event in particular," said Frey, and his scheduling was right on point.
Frey had a bye in the first round, and then swept his next two matches against Alan Schein and Jesse James. Kyle came back this afternoon with his first match against Panayiotou Erades, in which he lost the first game in the best of three, but came back to win the next two. It was a mirror image against his next opponent, David Diaz. In the finals Frey would face Joshua Templeton, whom Frey said was his toughest opponent of the day.
Throughout the final the two were very talkative, learning that they had some history playing each other online. Kyle even mentioned a story from the WSOP where he was sitting with an old basketball coach of Templeton this past summer. Although the mood may have seemed light, the play in the finals was the furthest from carefree.
Frey took a 1-0 advantage to begin the final match, but Templeton had been down in both his previous match ups, and he managed to win both of those. This wasn't strange territory for Templeton, and he played the second game very composed. Joshua had Frey in a 2-1 and 3-1 chip disparity at certain points, but could not put Kyle away. When Kyle was down to 4,000, he managed to double up, and then took the chip lead a few hands later when he again doubled through. Now sitting with the upper hand, Kyle put Templeton all-in, with both players holding an ace. Kyle (A 2) flopped a wheel draw while Templeton (A 7) was still ahead on the flop. Frey turned the wheel and Joshua's only hope was to chop. Frey watched as the river brick meant that he would be this year's heads up champion.
Event 16 had 52 entrants and held a total buy-in of $104,000. The field was stacked with solid players like Christian Harder, Michael Marder, Orson Young, Elon Diamond, Jamie Kestetter, and Alex Phahurat.
Kyle Frey made sure he arrived in time for this event, and now we can be sure that we will see his face as the Borgata Poker Open continues. With this win Kyle's live career earnings reach the $200,000 mark, and only the future can tell what that number will be once this series is over.
FINAL PAYOUTS:
1. KYLE FREY (MILFORD, CT): $40,352
2. JOSHUA TEMPLETON (CHATTANOOGA, TN): $20,176

Event 19: Triple Elimination for Cana in One Fell Scoop
On the last hand of the night, Jerry Cana (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) found himself in a pot with three other players all-in. After the turn, the board showed A♠6♠7♠J♦. Cana was hoping for help with AA56 against a nut flush K9K10, and one player holding trip jacks and high cards. Then the stunner hit as another 7 hit the board giving Cana aces full. And with no player holding low cards, Cana scooped the pot and knocked out three players at the same time.
Cana bolstered his chip stack to 73,400 in the colossal hand to end play for the night.
70 players will be back at 1PM to resume play.

Event 18: 1st Place - Ferro
$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)
After flopping bottom two pair, Jake 'the Snake' Ferro had his opponent all-in and in bad shape with only top pair. Karl Held had top pair with outs to survive, but the turn and river were not kind to him.
Jake Ferro claimed the pot and top honors along with $22,263. Not to mention his first Borgata Poker Open trophy.
The 23-year-old won a tournament in Vegas this summer for $54k, but this is his first big win here. He credits his parents, Ron & Patricia Ferro, for putting up with him and letting him play, calling them the best parents on the planet. He works with his father in his trucking dispatch company and had to get time off to play today.
