Event 16: Heads Up Runner-Up - Templeton

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Joshua Templeton (Tennessee)
Event 16 Runner-Up $20,176

Event 18: 10th - Kaziyev; 9th - Pirayesh

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Leonid Kaziyev (Queens, NY) got his last chips in with AJ against Joseph Gergus' pocket Tens.

The pair held up and Leonid was busted in 10th place ($1,072).

On a flop of T T 5 with two diamonds, Jacob Ferro bet enough to cover Michael Pirayesh (Charlotte, NC).

Michael gave it some thought, then called with Q4 of diamonds (flush draw).  Jacob was ahead with A9 (Ace-high).

The last two came offsuit 3 5 and Jacob took the pot.

Michael will take $1,649 for 9th place.

Karl Held is still the chip leader with ~2.9 million.

Roman Valerstein is a distant second with ~1.4 million.

Event 19: Miami John Hijacked

$350+50 Omaha H/L 8B

A staple in the mixed game tourneys, "Miami" John Cernuto found himself in a three way pot with Ernie Standish (Mechanicsville, MD) and Event 11 runner-up William Zaliwciw (Philadelphia, PA).

After some controversial action figuring out Zaliwciw's pre-flop call of a three-bet, action continued with the board running out 6♠ Q♠ J K K♠.  After 3600 more made its way into the pot, Standish turned over JJK10 for the full house.  Cernuto was none to happy and mucked his cards followed by Zaliwciw and Standish took down a 13k pot to take the chip lead on the table.

Event 18: Final Table

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

After a redraw and color-up break, the final ten are getting back to business.  Here's the new lineup.

Seat - Player
1 - Michael Pirayesh
2 - Jacob Ferro
3 - Keith Crowder
4 - Karl Held
5 - Joseph Gergus
6 - Roman Valerstein
7 - Michael Turco
8 - Leonid Kaziyev
9 - Todd Rebello
10 - Ramak Rabizadeh

Ramak Rabizadeh got all-in against Michael Turco.  Ramak's pocket Aces held up against KT suited and he doubled up

Event 19: Joined At The Hip

As was the case in Event 14, Allen Kessler and Ylon Schwartz have found themselves together again playing Omaha 8 and they have company.

Leroy Jones (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) who final tabled Event 15 early this morning and Jeff Hunter (Bronx, NY) who final tabled the Event 14 Omaha 8 tourney are right there with them.

Jamie Kerstetter is on the other side of the room representing the new ladies pro team - The Grindettes - consisting of herself, Katie Stone, Katie Dozier and Jennifer Shadade.

Event 17: Table Three Tougher

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

Table three has gotten a bit tougher.

James 'Suits' Salters has busted out and been replaced by Ari Albilia.

The player is seat 6 has also departed and been replaced by Amanda Musumeci.

Chris Bell

Looks like Chris Bell (Raleigh, NC) has taken a slight lead over the field.  He's up to about 170k.

30 players remain. Only 12 get paid.

Event 16: Frey Doubles...Then Doubles...Then Wins

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Kyle Frey did double up in our last post (to 8,000), and has just doubled again to 22,000.  So with these back to back doubles Frey is now the chip leader again.  The blinds have just went up to 400/800.  As we were entering this post, we had an all-in pre from Frey and he was called by Templeton.

Frey: A 2           Templeton: A 7

Flop: 3 4 10

Turn: 5

River: 7

Frey turned the wheel, and Templeton could only hope for a chop.  Frey is our 2012 Borgata Poker Open Heads Up Champion.

Event 16: Templeton Cripples Frey

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

The blinds are high for these 20,000 starting stacks each game begins with.  Templeton had picked up some pots and chipped up, so when Frey just went all-in pre and was called, it was a game changer.  Frey had J 9 and Templeton had K J, and Frey could not find help.  Frey was left with 4,000 in chips, but doubled up the very next hand.  So Templeton still has a sizable lead, but another double from Frey and he's right back in the game (still 1-0 Frey).

Event 18: 14th - 11th Places

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Earning $825
14 - David Zeitlin (Brooklyn, NY)
13 - Tomer Kravitz (Princeton, NJ)

On a flop of T 8 7 with two hearts, seat 6 bet 100k.  Keith Crowder shoved for 256k straight.

His opponent tanked, then folded.  Keith chipped up to ~600k.

Blinds are up to 20k/40k.

Earning $1,072
12 - Elliott Zaydman (Glen Rock, NJ)
11 - Michael Foti (W Sayville, NY)

The final ten are drawing seats and moving to the final table.

Event 18: 15th Place - McKenzie

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Karl Held

Karl Held (Queens, NY) was already the chip leader with about 1.5 million.

Then Irving McKenzie shoved and Karl snap-shoved over the top, isolating.

The Irving had pocket 7s.  Karl had pocket Kings.

The board changed nothing and Karl chipped up to ~1.8 million.

Irving McKenzie (Salisbury, MD) finished in 15th place, earning $825.

Event 16: Frey Doubles Up

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

In a pre-flop all-in and call it was the K Q of Templeton against the 10 10 of Frey.  The pair of tens held up and Frey has now taken control of this game, and is in a solid position to try to end the night.

Event 18: 18th - 16th Places

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Earning $701
18 - John Harvilla (Minersville, PA)
17 - Nigel Murray (Miami Gardens, FL)
16 - Chris Hyden (Laguna Beach, CA)

With 15 players remaining, the average stack is 545k.

Event 16: Stuck In Game 2

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

This game is still stuck at 1-0 (Frey), as Templeton had Frey in a dominant position, but Frey managed to chip back up.  The blinds have just gone up to 300/600, so the action should pick up throughout this level.

Event 18: 27th - 19th Places

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Earning $619
27 - Kevin McColgan (Douglasville, PA)
26 - Tom Savitsky (Absecon, NJ)
25 - Michel Marder (Sewell, NJ)
24 - William Sussman (Rivedale, NY)
23 - Chun Chen (Seattle, WA)
22 - Brian Adragna (E Meadow, NY)
21 - James Sloat (Ft. Meade, MD)
20 - Maurice Sessum (Buffalo, NY)
19 - Michael McCall (Sewell, NJ)

Event 17: Tough Table

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

Table three has to be the toughest I've seen in a long while.

Table Three

Seated there are
Chris Bell - 1 WSOP bracelet, $2.9 million lifetime
Dan Buzgon - 2 WPT final tables in Season X
James 'Suits' Salters - Borgata tournament regular
Jeff Papola - 1 WOSP bracelet (in a 6-max event); ~$1.9 million lifetime
Alex Bolotin - over $2.1 million lifetime

Event 16: Templeton Has Rubber Match In Mind

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Joshua Templeton has a 3-1 chip lead in this second game of the series, and is doing what he can to take this to a third and deciding match.

Event 17: Teach Getting Schooled

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

Also in this incredibly tough field is Ken 'Teach' Aldridge (Pleasant Garden, NC).

Ken 'Teach' Aldridge

This event should be right in his wheelhouse, since he won his WSOP bracelet, along with $428,259, in a 6-max event at the 2009 WSOP.

Teach isn't doing so well.  I stopped by a few minutes ago and he only had 70k.  When I passed by again, he said he had less than he had before.

Event 16: Game 2 Still Even

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit

Players have been very chatty in this second match, and we've yet to have any hands with three bets or big pots.  Templeton has a slight lead currently, as the blinds have gone up to 150/300.

Event 17: 42 Remain

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

Down to 42 players at seven tables.  Average stack is 64k.

 Thomas Hoglund

Looks like Thomas Hoglund might be the chip leader with about 150k.

Harry Korotki is close to that same amount.

Event 18: Marder Out 25th

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Michael Marder (Sewell, NJ) got his last chips in with pocket 9s, but ran into Michael Pirayesh's (Charlotte, NC) pocket Kings.

 Michael Pirayesh

The board changed nothing and Michael was busted in 25th place ($619).

Michael chipped up to ~660k, putting him in the top three in chips.

Event 17: Back in Action

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

Play has resumed.

Level 9:  Blinds 400/800, 75 ante.

Eight tables remain (48 players max).

Event 16: Frey Goes Up 1-0

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Templeton had taken down some hands, check raising the flop a handful of times and getting Frey to fold.  On a board of 8 6 K 8, Templeton put out a pot sized bet and Frey put enough chips in the middle to raise Joshua all-in.  Templeton called and showed A A, but Frey turned over 7 8, and the river king would only improve Frey's hand and give him the 1-0 lead.

Event 19: Omaha Resumes

$350 + 50 Omaha Hi/Lo 8B

The Omaha players are back on the felt.

Level 6:  Limits 300/600.

168 players remain.

Event 16: Frey Takes An Early Lead

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

On the third hand of heads up play, Templeton called a raise from Frey, and we went to the flop:

Flop: 2c Kd Jd

Frey fired out again, and once again was called by Templeton.

Turn: Ad

Frey bet out 2,500 and was called.

River: 4c

Frey bets 8,200 and Templeton called.  Frey flipped over A A for a set of aces and Templeton exclaimed, "That's a really good hand," while mucking his cards.  Templeton is immediately down to 4,400.

Event 16: Heads Up Finals Underway

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

The final match between Kyle Frey and Joshua Templeton is just underway.  Both players start with 20,000 and blinds are 100/200.  Both of these players came from 0-1 down to win their prior matches, so neither will be shook if they take the first loss.

Event 18: Play Resumed

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

27 players are back in action.

Still in Level 21:  Blinds 8k/16k with 2k ante.

Event 17: Dinner Break (Back At 8:45)

$1,500 + 150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em

The 49 players that remain are going on an hour dinner break.  Right now the chip average in the room is 55,000, and when players come back it will be Level 9 with 400/800/75.

On the hand before break Amanda Musumeci (Philadelphia, PA) doubles up to 69,000 after flopping a set against a player who turned top pair (with an open-ended draw) and rivered an insignificant two pair.

Event 19: Omaha-lics Off for Dinner

$350 + 50 Omaha Hi/Lo 8B

Seventeen tables of Omaha Hi/Lo players have disappeared for a one hour dinner break.

Play will resume at about 8:45pm.

Event 16: Templeton To Face Frey In Finals

$2,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Joshua Templeton has made his was to the final match against Kyle Frey.  Templeton was another player who was in a hole early and dug his way out.  The players will resume the championship match at 8:30, and we will bring you updated coverage.

Event 18: Dinner Time

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 21:  Blinds 8k/16k with 2k ante.

At 7:30, the clock was stopped.

The 27 remaining players have earned a one hour dinner break.  Play will resume at 8:30 pm.

Event 18: 36th - 28th Places

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Earning $495
36 - Scott Shoyer (Flourtown, PA)
35 - Michael McGuinness (Toms River, NJ)
34 - Major David Shepherd (Silver Spring, MD)
33 - Mike Holm (Woodridge, IL)
32 - Travell Thomas (Buffalo, NY)
31 - Mary Archbell (Southern Shores, NC)
30 - Sean Lee Fleming (Washington, DC)
29 -  Ryan Blank (Owings Mill, MD)
28 - Sheng Xiong Jin (Sunnyside, NY)

Event 16: One Foot Out The Door

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Joshua Templeton had Shawn Busse in bad shape as he had Q 9 on a board of 9 2 3.  Busse held 10 3 and was behind...until the river 10.  Templeton still had a slim chip lead in this final match.

Event 18: New Chip Leader

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

The money bubble burst while no one was watching and they're already down to 31 players.

Leonid Kaziyev

Leonid Kaziyev (Queens, NY) is the chip leader with ~850k.

Keith Crowder (Elkins Park, PA) is second with ~655k.

Or at least he was.  After a short-stack shoved, Keith (sb) looked at his hand and said "this is my favorite hand" and made the call, showing 32 suited.  His opponent had AQ.

The flop came T 9 8 and Keith kept saying he was going to crack the other guy.

Then the 2 fell on the turn, giving Keith the lead with a pair.

River was a Jack, however, giving his opponent the Queen-high straight and the double-up.

Event 16: Templeton/Busse Deadlocked

$2,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Once again the player down 0-1 has evened the match at Joshua Templeton plays his way back into contention.  After a short break the third match has resumed, and our championship will be set shortly.

Event 16: Frey Into Finals

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Kyle Frey is into the Event 16 Finals as he comes back to defeat David Diaz 2-1.  Frey was in a quick hole down 0-1 but composed himself, and took the next two.  He awaits the winner of the Templeton/Busse matchup.  Diaz takes home $10,088 for his fourth place finish.

Event 17: Dragon Style

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

David "The Dragon" Pham (Bell Gardens, CA)
($8,700,000 plus lifetime earnings)

We have reached the point in the tournament where all of the tables remaining are at 6-handed.  Still alive in this event is David Pham (Bell Gardens, CA), who most recently took fourth in Event 38 of the WSOP ($1,500 No Limit Hold'em) for $140,736.  Pham is the owner of two WSOP bracelets, and still looking for his first WPT Main Event win.

Joshua Templeton, who is still hoping to reach the championship of the heads up event, took a break between games in the final four.  During that break he walked over the this event where he was blinding off, and was busted by Dan Buzgon.

Event 18: Chip Leader

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

 Gordon Got Chips

We're four spots from the money and Gordon McKenzie (Salisbury, MD) is the chip leader with more than 500k (63 BB). The average stack is 204k (26 BB) as blinds are still 4k/8k/1k ante.

The top 36 collect a min cash of $495 as they play for the top prize of $22,263.

PPI Perspective

PPI Perspective below is offered by Eric Siegel,  Director of Marketing and Player Development PPI

I have been personally involved with the Borgata Poker Open since its inception 10 years ago. My experience with the BPO started as a recreational cash game player transitioning into tournaments just as my partners at Poker Players International (PPIPOKER.COM) Gene Castro and Randy Kasper were doing the same.  We recognized back then that Borgata had a vision for the future of tournament poker.  We believed that vision was to provide poker players of all levels of experience with a spacious and comfortable environment to play, tournaments with player friendly structures, a staff that expertly coordinates and runs multiple events running simultaneously, large prize pools, along with hotel and dining options that make a stay at Borgata a pleasure for the mind, body, and poker bankroll.

This hard work and dedication to the world wide poker community has resulted in many years of fantastic BPO experiences with huge fields of players; while establishing the careers of many of the most recognizable and successful poker players in the world.  Poker professionals and amateurs alike all make any Borgata Poker Open a priority when planning their poker event calendars.

When I arrive at the Borgata Poker Open each year, there is a level of intensity and excitement that is incomparable to any other tournament stop. I feel that there is an underlying camaraderie between players, staff and the media crews. In some sense its a reunion of friends and players that we get to interact and compete with for a very special two weeks with one common bond -- "The Passion for Poker".

Poker Players International established its representation of a core group of players here at the Borgata, and through the years have gone on to become the largest poker player representation agency and poker marketing company in the world.  PPI represents hundreds of top US and International Players, along with many individuals within the poker media, publishing and entertainment sectors.  Our roster of players include WSOP Main Event winners Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang and Tom Mcevoy; WPT Champions Will "The Thrill" Failla and Tommy Vedes; November Niners Ylon Schwartz, Joseph Cheong, John Racener and Greg Merson; WSOP Bracelet winners Ryan Eriquezzo, T.J Cloutier, Chris Tryba, Jason Young, Ronnie Bardah, Frank Kasella; Poker Ambassadors Barry Schulman, Linda Johnson and Lon Mceachern; Elite poker pro instructors Lee Childs and Casey Jarzebak; and scores of other top pros like Matt Glantz, Chris Moorman.

We at PPI congratulate Borgata on a record-breaking opening event that attracted over 3,700 players, and are looking forward to the rest of the series leading up to the televised $3 Million Guaranteed WPT Borgata Poker Open  Championship starting this Sunday.

Best of luck to all Borgata Poker Open Players!

Play is getting testy on one table where the clock was called on an opponent who eventually folds and then is shown an ace high bluff by Keith Crowder (Elkins Park, PA).

Borgata Poker Open

(l-r) Zeitlin & Lippert

Dave Zeitlin and Adam Lippert break down their respective tournaments.  Dave Z is still playing in the Deep Stack Semi-Turbo, while Lip has busted the 8/7/6 event.

Event 18: Chip Race

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Norma is Definitely a Pane

75 year-old Norma Pane (Brooklyn, PA) is having a good time and says, "not often enough" when asked how often she wins playing poker at Borgata. Her only career series cash came at the 2007 Borgata Winter Poker Open when she finished 7th in the Ladies event for $4,000.

Pane is already a winner today with her infectious laugh, not to mention she won the black (100) chip race. She has a healthy stack with 89k which is above the 51k (10 BB) chip average with 110 players remaining.

Blinds are 2,500/5k/500 ante and levels are increasing in length from 15 to 30 minutes.

Event 19: Feels Like "Home"-aha

$350 + 50 Omaha Hi/Lo 8B

It looks like everyone got the memo about this event going on.  The cards are in the air, and here is a list of notables in the field today:

Gil Sacks
Allen Kessler
"Miami" John Cernuto
Ron Fast
Bo Toft
Barry Levy
Ron Winklevoss
Chris Reslock

....just to name a few

Event 17: Blinding Off

$1500 + $150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

"Good luck, have fun with my blinds," says Joshua Templeton (Cleveland, TN), as he switches from the 8/7/6 format to his heads up semifinal match.

Templeton leaves behind 15k (50 BB) with blinds at 150/300/50 ante. He's guaranteed to make $10,088 for making it to the final four in the heads up and is still in the running for the $40,352 top prize.

It'll be interesting to see how long the match goes and how many chips are blinded off his 8/7/6 stack.

Event 16: Templeton Rounds Out Final Four

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

That prior hand was too much for Coon to overcome, as Joshua Templeton moves on to the final four.  Here are our match ups:

Joshua Templeton v. Shawn Busse
Kyle Frey v. David Diaz

Event 16: Heads Up Cooler

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

People think these hands aren't supposed to happen heads up, but they do all the time.  We walked over on the turn with a board of K 8 8 10, and Templeton raising Coon's 2,500 bet to 5,000.  Coon called and a 9 spiked the river.  Coon had Templeton covered, and called after Templton declared himself all in.  Templeton showed A 8 while Coon flipped over 5 8, losing the pot a hurting his chance of winning this match (which is at 1-1).

Event 19: Omaha Again

$350 + $50 Omaha H/L 8B

Players love their Omaha which is why the game is offered multiple times throughout the series.

The third version during the Borgata Poker Open is set to start with players getting 12k in chips and levels lasting 40 minutes each.

This two-day tournament begins with the button in the three seat.

Event 17: Tweetville

$1500 + $150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Event 16: Frey and Busse Into Final Four

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Both Kyle Frey (def. Eracles Panayiotou) and Shawn Busse (def. Aaron Massey) are moving on to the final four.  Frey will face Diaz while Busse awaits the winner of the Templeton/Coon match which sits at 1-1.

Event 16: Still Deadlocked

$2,000 + 150 8/7/6 No Limit Hold'em

The matches are still where we left them, but it looks as if Shawn Busse has a stranglehold on his match versus Aaron Massey.

Event 17: Re-Entry Closed

$1500 + $150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Players are on a 15 minute break as re-entry is closing.

Other familiar faces include Dave Fox, Ted Geier, Cherish Andrews and Christian Harder.

Play resumes with Level 5 (150/300/25 ante) with more than 125 players in the field.

Event 16: Round 4 Updates

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

These Round 4 matches continue on, with two deadlocked at 1-1, and the Coon/Templeton match still at 1-0 to Coon.  The Masse/Busse is 1-1 and the Panayiotou/Frey is also 1-1.

Event 18: Re-Entry Closed

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Taya Takes Out Two

On the final hand of re-entry Taya Kuznetsova (New York, NY) gets two knockouts on the last hand of re-entry.  Her pocket queens hold up against 8 6 and Q 9 as she adds 37k to her stack and is up to 65k.

More than 300 entries are in the field.

Event 17: Tough Table Draw

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em

No table in this event is particularly easy, but Table 9 has an incredibly tough draw:

Amanda Musumeci
Vinny Pahuja
Marvin Siegal
Matthew Burnitz

Event 16: Round 4 Updates

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

There are three matches still underway in Round 4:

Panayiotou (1-0) over Frey

Busse (1-0) over Massey

Coon (1-0) over Templeton

Event 16: Diaz To Final Four

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

David Diaz is the first to move into the Final Four.  With his match with Diaz deadlocked at 1-1, Phahurat ran into a heads up cooler.  On a flop of A J K, all the chips got in the middle with Phahurat holding A 10 and Diaz tabling J J.  Diaz's set of Jacks would take down the hand, and the three game series 2-1.  He awaits the winner of the Panayiotou/Frey matchup.

Event 18: Nice to Meet You...Again

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

 (l-r from dealer) Joel F. & Joel E.

Alek Rapoport (Brooklyn, NY) and Jason Edelman (Monroe Twp, NJ) are at the same table and getting reacquainted after playing together at a final table in June during the Borgata Summer Poker Open.

Rapoport was runner-up in the event for $58,000, while Edelman was 6th for a $11,000 payday.

These two didn't get involved in any big hands this summer and so far the play has been pretty tame. Joel Fishman (Livingston, NJ) and the others at the table are enjoying the banter as they recall their deep runs.

 Rapoport Building his Rapport

Event 16: Round 4 Updates

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Round 4 matches still in progress:

Eracles Panayiotou v. Kyle Frey (0-0)

David Diaz v. Alex Phahurat (1-1)

Aaron Massey v. Shawn Busse (0-1)

Joshua Templeton v. Jeffrey Coon (0-0)

Event 17: Tough Field Is An Understatement

$1500 + 150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em

It was always going to be a tough field in an event like this, but I don't think anyone planned for some of the names to enter this event:

Allen Cunningham (Las Vegas, NV)
($10,000,000 + Career Earnings)

Barry Greenstein (Rancho Palo Verde, CA)
($8,000,000 Career Earnings)

Ryan D'Angelo (Binghamton, NY)
($1,280,000 Career Earnings)

Event 18: Ladies Table

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Bykfosky (2nd from left), Spagnuolo & Williamson (center, l-r)

Our featured ladies table has a strong collection of women. Marguerite Spagnuolo (Staten Island, NY) is fresh off her third place finish in the Ladies event ($3,330) and is at the table with Tiffany Williamson (Gaithersburg, MD) and Sheree Bykofsky (Atlantic City, NJ)

Williamson had a final table at the Borgata Summer Poker Open and was the 15th place finisher in 2005 WSOP Main Event, while Bykofsky has 6 Borgata series cashes the last two years.

Event 16: Round 4 (Diaz v. Phahurat)

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

It's now or never for Alex Phahurat, as he can not afford to lose another game.  He got off to a good start in the second game of the match, turning trips on a queen-high board against Diaz who held A Q.  So Alex has temporarily to a big chunk off of Diaz's starting stack.  The rest of the matches are all underway and stand 0-0.

Event 17: Multi-Tabling

$1500 + $150 8/7/6 Max No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Johnson (right) watches Lytle (left) & Templeton (4th from left) Chop it Up

Josh Templeton (Cleveland, TN) is not only in the money for the heads up tournament, but is also playing in this event.  He had a two hour wait before his quarterfinal match so he had plenty of time to goof it up with this fun table.

He's seated with Austen Johnson (Woodsboro, MD), Daniel Buzgon (Marlton, NJ) and John Lytle (Rumson, N) who have added "blind raises" to the game with Buzgon and Johnson needling each other.

Johnson folds to a raise on the turn and then watches Templeton and Lytle chop the pot, each with AJ.

"I folded the winner," says Johnson who would've hit trip 10s on the river.  "I folded my two-outer," he laments as Buzgon laughs.

The tournament is on a 15 minute break, but for Templeton he's off to begin his heads up match.

Event 16: Round 4 (Diaz v. Phahurat)

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

David Diaz (Left) and Alex Phahurat

In the only match to begin at promptly 1:00 pm, it was only four hands before the first game of this best-of-three matchup was over.   After it went raise, three-bet, and four-bet all-in, the cards were flipped up.   It was the K K of Phahurat against the 7 7 of Diaz, and right in the window was a 7.  So David takes a 1-0 lead as we begin the second game.

Event 16: Round 4 Matchups

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

The final eight players will be starting back up at 1:00 pm, with all guaranteed at the least $5,044.  Here are the match-ups to begin shortly:

Eracles Panayiotou v. Kyle Frey
David Diaz v. Alex Phahurat
Aaron Massey v. Shawn Busse
Joshua Templeton v. Jeffery Coon

Event 18: Good (Mc)Call

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

McCall & Eshaghian

On a board of Q♣ 7 5 J 5♣ Jason Eshaghian (New York, NY) moves all in from the SB and Michael McCall (Lorraine, OH) makes a crying call from the button.

"You're good," says Eshaghian who shows 8 4 for a missed flush and gutterball straight draw.

McCall shows a missed flush draw with J10, but his pair of jacks takes it down.

"Wow," says Dave Zeitlin (Brooklyn, NY) who opened the betting preflop and folded his c-bet to Eshaghian's check-raise on the flop.

McCall gets the double-up, while Eshaghian still has chips in this fast moving structure.

Event 18: Who Dat?

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

Fresh off the sting of finishing as bubble boy last night (121st, with 120 getting paid) Jose Montes (Bronx, NY) is back for more "torture."

Other recognizable faces we've spotted so far:

Dave Zeitlin
Lisa Pickell
Cuong Phong
Mark Sykes
Jenny So
Alik Sitnyakovsky
Marguerite Spagnuolo
John DelRossi
Keith Crowder
Patricia Cahill
Lana O'Brien
Mike Holm
Tim Bishop

Event 18: More Event Center Action

$260 + $40 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (Re-Entry)

In addition to the 8/7/6 tournament, a new wave of players are in the back of the Event Center for a much faster paced tournament.

The semi-turbo means 15 minute rounds for the first 15 rounds, which is extended to 30 minutes the rest of the way.

Re-entry is available for the first eight levels of this one-day tournament.

O'Donoghue Turns $600 into $100k

Borgata Poker Open

Brian O'Donoghue (Bayside, NY) has pulled off improbable back-to-back wins at the Borgata Poker Open for a total of $101,720.  Not a bad return on the $630 he put up to play.

At ten tables (70 players remaining), each time a player is eliminated, a chair will be removed and play will become six-handed.  It will stay a six-handed tournament the rest of the way.

Event 15 Recap

Recap Event 15

Brian O'Donoghue posted a stunning victory as he wins back to back events taking down Event 15.

Coming off of one and a half hours of sleep and being down to four big blinds, O'Donoghue had to resort to a very patient game to evade all of the minefields and unorthodox play he faced to take down the title.

The style of runner-up Cliff Dunham (Windham, ME) had the table baffled as he raised with players all-in and used various raise sizes keeping his opponents off-balance.  In the heads-up match, he actually had O'Donohue in serious trouble before a gutsy call with a pair of kings with an ace and four clubs on the board put him in the chip lead to stay.

O'Donoghue also took out Borgata veteran player Pofuk Ying in grand fashion.  Ying holding J2 had flopped trips but O'Donoghue's A10 held the only diamond when the board four-flushed him and knocked out his top competition at the table.

Krishna Hari had some very exciting moments constantly fighting back from being incredibly short stacked repeatedly at the final table.  Sandeep Patel also demonstrated great enthusiasm and excitement all the way through the event on his way to a sixth place finish.

One notable finish in the field was two-time WPT champion Cornel Andrew Cimpan from Sacramento, CA finishing 103rd and winning $420.

Event 15 - 1st Place - Brian O'Donoghue

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

 Brian O'Donoghue - Bayside, NY - $51,588

In what has to be regarded as one of the greatest accomplishments in Borgata Poker Open history, Brian O'Donoghue (Bayside, NY) wins events on back-to-back nights to take down his second event of the series.

O'Donoghue was working on one and half hours of sleep between his win in Event 10 and Event 15.  He was down to four big blinds on the bubble and grinded his through the remainder of the tourney.  A critical hand with aces early in the final table gave him the ability to play an aggressive yet patient style en route to defeating Cliff Dunham to take it down.

"I'm speechless" he said after it was over.  "The table was ludicrous.  I had to be very patient but I had the perfect seat position.  With the way the table was playing, I had to just stay patient and wait for my spots."

Congratulations on back to back victories at the Borgata Poker Open!

    Event 15: 12th Place - Parker

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Jared Parker (West Hampton, NJ) ran into the Brian O'Donoghue Express and it ended up sending him packing with a $2,856 payday for his efforts.

Parker raised pre-flop with a three bet from O'Donoghue.  Parker pushed and was called by Brian and the race was on with Parker holding AK against O'Donoghue's 9's.

The board ran out 4-10-8-4-10 and we're down to 11 players going into a break.

    Event 15: Double, Double

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'Em

Pofuk Ying was all-in with AQ suited against Pasquale Boffice's pocket Jacks.

The board came A A T T T and Ying took the pot with Aces-full, doubling up to ~2.8 million.

A few hands later, Pasquale Boffice got all his chips in the middle against Brian O'Donoghue.

Brian had A5 off and was racing against Pasquale's pocket 2s.

The board came A 8 2 A 5 and Pasquale flopped a set to double up to about 1 million.

Event 15: Secor Out in 13th

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Morno Secor took at shot with A9 and was called by Ilya Dyment holding KJ.

Unfortunately for Secor, Dyment hit a king on the flop and a jack on the turn and ended a long night of poker for Secor in 13th place for $1,920.

    Event 15: 14th Place - Zotti

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'Em

Mark Zotti (Parsippany, NJ) was all-in for 120k.

    Ilya Dymment (cutoff) called.

    Pofuk Ying (button) called.

    Brian O'Donoghue (bb) called.

On the flop of 6 6 2, Ilya bet 300k and the other two players folded.

Mark showed K9 (two overs).  Ilya was ahead with A2 for two pair.

Turn was a King and gave Mark the lead, but then the river was another 2, giving Ilya trips and the pot.

Mark finished in 14th place ($1,920).

Event 15: I'll Take Four-Flush For the Win Please

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

A huge three-way pot went down on Table 1 between Justin Cillo, Jared Parker and Arslan Arslanoski with Chillo in danger of elimination.

    Arslanoski - Q♠10♣
    Parker - A♣ Q♣
    Cillo - Q 10♠

With Parker a big favorite, the board ran out J 9♣ A 4 7 giving Cillo the four-flush and taking the main pot.  Parked did win the side pot leaving Arslanoski crippled.

On the next hand Arslanoski (Brielle, NJ) could not survive and finished in 15th place.

    Event 15: 18th - 16th Places

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'Em

David Fu (Brooklyn, NY) was all-in with KT against James Tedrow's A8.  An 8 flopped and James took the pot.

    David finished in 18th place.

Michael Watters (Middle Village, NY) busted out in 17th place.  Michael won this event during the 2011 BPO, good for $51,974.  He was hoping for a re-peat, but came up short.

Vyacheslav 'Steve' Eyzerovich busted out in 16th place.

All three of these players earned $1,284.

    Event 15: 27th - 19th Places

Event 15: The Joker Is Gone and Down to 18

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Mikhail Sher (Philadelphia, PA) could not hang on and vacated a seat he held for most of the tournament.

Sher ended up in a post-flop showdown with Cliff Dunham on a 3-6-J board.  Sher had 9-6 for second pair while Dunham held A-5.  But running straight cards put the dagger in Sher's heart and he was out on 20th place for $1,063.

Another elimination took place and the field is now down to 18 players remaining for the Event 15 championship.  Every player is guaranteed at payday of $1,284.

    Event 15: Patel Doubles

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'Em

Sandeep Patel limped from the button and both blinds came along for a flop of T♠93.

    Seat 1 (sb) bet 100k, seat 2 shoved all-in, and Sandeep snap-called all-in.  Seat 1 folded.

Seat 2 had J8 for the open-ender.  Sandeep had A6 for the nut flush draw.

The last two came K 4♠ and Sandeep more than doubled up to ~3 million.

Event 15: No Hotel Room Needed

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Brian O'Donoghue continues to battle on here in Event #15.

O'Donoghue got in good with A10 vs his opponent's A8♠.  While the board did tease a gutshot for the 8, Brian doubled to get back to 1.3 million.

Can O'Donoghue continue to fight his fatigue and bring back his second title in this Open?  Only time will tell but he did confirm he will not be playing anything tomorrow (which has now become today).

Event 15: Rick Ruffman Out in 23rd

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Rick Ruffman (Colts Neck, NJ) was battling a short stack all day but he didn't want to play one THIS short.

After getting knocked down to a lowly 25k in chips after losing A5 vs. A9, Ruffman managed to quadruple up the next hand holding a K7 and catching trip kings.

The kings were appearing to be very kind to Ruffman as he went all-in and was called.  Ruffman showed KK vs A9.  But his opponent flopped A9 and then another ace on turn ended the comeback attempt and finished off Ruffman in 23rd for $1,063.

Event 15: Pushed Over The Cliff

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

The man from Maine just made some noise.

With 800k in the pot and a 6J♠3♠2♣ board, Joseph Galazzo (Union, NY) pushed his remaining 683k into the middle.  Cliff Dunham (Windham, ME) took some time to consider his options and firmly called out "I call".  Galazzo said "Nice call" and showed KQ while Dunham shows his 7's.  With the table complimenting the call, Dunham's hand held up and puts him out in front at approximately 4.1 million.  Gallazzo finishes in 29th place winning $924

The tourney is now down to three tables with 24 players remaining.

    Cliff Dunham (Windham, ME)

    Event 15: O'Donoghue Hanging Around

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Maybe Brian O'Donoghue should have more sleepless nights.

The Event #10 champion who was at 4 big blinds on the bubble has been sitting back watching the players fall one by one and with 33 players remaining sits at 1.6 million and remains a threat to win his second event at this Open.

    Brian O'Donoghue (Bayside, NY)

    Event 15: Last Woman Eliminated

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

The field of 1,237 just had its final woman eliminated.  Beverly Swimm of Clifton Park was all in with K7 vs A9 but got no help and was knocked out in 35th place.  Beverly takes home $924 and Last Woman Standing honors in Event 15.

Beverly Swimm (Clifton Park, NY) - $924

    Event 3: Table 3 Battles

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

While Mikhail Sher has been providing the table entertainment, there's been a ton of action.

Ilya Dyment (Brooklyn, NY) has been sitting in the same seat for quite awhile and has been slowly chipping up all night.  His stack now stands at 2.2 million.

The table has not been so kind to Pofuk Ying.  After a hand where he took nearly 500k hit against Cliff Dunham (Windham, ME) after making a call with 9's against on a K75 board with Dunham holding KJ, Ying has fallen to 1.2 million and was left shaking his head wondering what is going on.

We're down to four tables and closing on a champion as play continues into the early morning hours.

    Event 16: Quarter-Final Matches

    $2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

David Diaz pulled off the win in the rubber match, beating Jamie Kerstetter.

    $200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Steve Bent aka 'White Al Roker' just busted out when his AT was out-flopped by a player holding A2.

    Yes, a 2 flopped.  Steve finished 36th for $924

A short while ago, Manh Nguyen got his last chips in with AQ, but ran into pocket Aces.  He finished 49th for $694.

    Also gone:

    Ruth Ruffman

35 players remain.  Average stack is 884k.

    Event 15: McNally Climbing

    $200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Rich McNally (Long Island, NY) was down to 80k just a short while ago.

    Rich McNally

Then he busted Borgata regular Brian Mooney.  And he recently doubled up through Sandeep Patel when he flopped a straight.

Rich is now up to over 1.3 million and climbing.

Big stack Pofuk Ying has been moved to the seat on his left.
