WPT BPO: Brian Bags Chip Lead & $10k Bonus

3300 + $200 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship NLH

Lemke Doing Post Play Interviews

Brian Lemke (Norristown, PA) bags 272,575 to easily win the Day 1B $10,000 bonus and take the overall chip lead.

Lemke says he ran well in in the last hour of the night when he made a gutsy call with queen high on an AAKKx board to win a 50k pot. That was followed by another big hand when he turned a straight against his opponents flopped set of 9s.

Only one other player cracked the 200k chip mark as Kyle Bunker finished at 201,000 in a distant second place.  This a much different result than Day 1A when chip leader Robert Boyko (Yonkers, NY) only bagged 173k and earned the bonus by just 5k.

Lemke, who lives in suburban Philadelphia, can be found at Borgata for the big events and added to his resume when he won a $560 event in April's Borgata Spring Poker Open for $111,000.  He has $1.1 million in career tournament earnings, including a 2009 WSOP bracelet.

Lemke is on top of the 625 remaining players as play resumes with Day 2, Tuesday at 12 pm.

Brian Lemke

With less than 30 minutes of play for the night Brian Lemke (Norristown, PA) is now the clear chip leader.  The WSOP bracelet holder and 2012 Borgata Spring Poker Open event winner ($111,000) is up to 250k.

Lemke is in great shape to take down the $10,000 bonus as the Day 1B chip leader.

Ivan Mamuzic, the third place finisher for $252,000 at the 2009 orgata Poker Open, sends a player to the rail after flopping a pair of aces and fading a flush draw.

Recognizable players recently hitting the rail include:

Chalie Hook
John Lakatosh
Matt Isles
One player who avoids busting is Alex Phahaurt who is fortunate enough to flop quad 5s to more than double his last 7k.

We pick up the action with Albert Smith (Ithaca, NY) all in on a board of 2 10 J 4 and Thinley Kalsang (New York, NY) is in he tank.

Thinley, facing a 21k bet, may have had the $10,000 bonus on his mind when he calls from his 180k stack, but unfortunately is drawing dead.

Smith's set of jacks is best against Kalsang's A 10, which hits two pairs on the river.  Smith doubles on the hand and is at 60k, while Kalsang is still one of the bigger stacks at 160k.

One player enjoying dinner break is Borgata regular Wayne Lewis (Galloway, NJ) who didn't get much sleep after playing in Sunday's 7 pm qualifier.  The $550 Satellite wrapped at 4:30 this morning when he and 22 other players won their seats.

Understandably, Lewis was a late arrival and jumped into the Championship at the end of Level 1 around 12:30 pm.

Lewis is getting an 86% discount off the $3,500 entry fee and one of the hopefuls gunning for the $818,847 first place prize.

Bo Toft registered for the main event day 1B yesterday, so he already had his seat assignment for today.

Bo Toft & Matt Brady

Then he decided to play event 50, the 11am $350 + $ 50 Super Turbo Survivor event, where ~1 in 10 players win $3,500 -- just enough to buy into the Championship.

So while he was being blinded off in the main event, Bo was making a run for the cash.  Unfortunately he didn't Survive 'til the cash.  He's now taken his seat in this event at table 50 with Matt Brady, Kia Mohajeri, and Connie Rinaldi.

Brown Downs Red Bull

True to his word, Michael Brown (Corbyville, Canada) is at Borgata to play in Day 1B after making making the 16 hour round trip to Ontario and back.  After winning Event 20 for $67,358, Brown went home to play more poker before returning to Borgata this morning.

"I'm taking Red bull intravenously," the bleary eyed Brown said in between hands.

Brown's Timeline:

Sunday 2:30 am: Wins Event 20 at Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ
Sunday 12:30 pm: Returns to Ontario, Canada to play more poker
Monday 12:00 am: Departs Ontario
Monday 9:30 am: Arrives at Borgata for Day 1B

Brown says he's gotten about two ours of sleep over the last two days.

WPT BPO: Early Chip Leader

Maruti Yarlapati (Parsipanny, NJ)

We have found our early chip leader of the tournament, and it is Maruti Yarlapati (Parsippany, NJ) with just under 150,000.  Remember that both Day 1A and Day 1B chip leaders receive $10,000 cash for holding that title.  Last night's chip leader Robert Boyko (Yonkers, NY) bagged approximately 171,000, so it looks like Maruti sits in very good shape at the moment if he continues his upward trend.

The 11 am Super Turbo Survivor ended just before registration of the Championship Event closed and some of the the lucky $3,500 winners are now in the field including Marguerite Spagnuolo (Staten Island, NY).

"I almost got run over," says Spagnuolo while on her way to an empty table after avoiding the rush of players heading to break.

Spagnuolo and ~90 players began the day with 10 minute levels and she says it won't be hard to change gears while playing a deep structure with 75 minute levels and 30k in chips.  "I know how to play survivors," says Spagnuolo who gives all the credit to her family because of its support.

First and foremost her gratitude goes to husband Marco II, while proudly wearing her Farrell Lionness shirt as Marco the III is a freshman at Monsignor Farrell High School. Daughter Adriana rounds out the family.

"I'm going to turn $400 into $1 million," she says while anxiously waiting to play her first hand of the Championship Event, but its far from her first of the day.

WPT BPO: Fouksman Firing Bullet #3

$3300 + $200 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship NLH

Eugene Fouksman (Manalapan, NJ) played day 1A, but busted out.

He registered again today on day 1B and has now busted out again.

On a flop of K T 5, he was all-in holding KT (two pair) against Mike 'Mad Dog' Shasho, who had pocket Aces.

Then another 5 hit the turn, giving Mad Dog Aces-up and the pot.

Eugene has re-entered, firing his third bullet.  Hopefully the third time is the charm!

WPT BPO: WPT vs. WSOP POYs

$3300 + $200 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship NLH

Back on table 37 are a couple of faces we don't see on a regular basis here at Borgata.

Jonathan Little and Jeff Madsen are seated there, with one currently empty seat between them waiting to be filled.

Jonathan Litte & Jeff Madsen

Jonathan has two WPT titles, four final tables, and almost $3.6 million in career earnings, just on the WPT.  He was Season VI WPT Player of the Year....but no WSOP bracelet yet.

Jeff Madsen has two WSOP bracelets and was WSOP player of the year in 2006.  He won the 2010 Borgata Winter Open Championship event ($625,006) but his best finish on the WPT was 6th place at the WPT Legends of Poker last month ($75,400).  His lifetime earnings are about $3.5 million, but still no WPT title.

WPT BPO: Cornelius Cashing In

$3300 + $200 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship NLH

Playing day 1B today is Julie Anna Cornelius (recently relocated to the Atlanta, GA area).  'Jules' as she's known to her friends, won a contest for entry into the Inside The Minds class held here at Borgata the day before the Borgata Poker Open series began.

Jules Cornelius

She changed her travel plans to arrive a day early and attended the class, led by professional poker players Lee Childs and Jason Young.

Since then, she cashed in a Survivor tournament and won last Wednesday's 7pm Black Chip Bounty tournament, cashing for over $8,000 in one week.

She's hoping to parlay her new knowledge and her winnings into a much bigger payday in this event.

This morning she Tweeeted to her followers:

"venti wpt extra hot" glgl to everyone! Feeling pumped and blessed to be able to play this event today "at home" gl all
