Event 16: Frey Guns Down Jesse James

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

 Jesse James v Kyle Frey

Kyle Frey beat Jesse James in the third round.

Frey now advances to the quarter-finals and is guaranteed to earn at least $5,044.

Quarter-final matches are scheduled to begin at 1pm Thursday.

Event 15: Deeter Takes Advantage

With players now opening up after the bubble, Trevor Deeter (Philadelphia, PA) managed to take advantage of the loose play.

Deeter made an late position all-in push with approximately 130,000 and got two callers.  On a jack-high board, Deeter saw his first opponent also go all-in driving the third player out of the pot.

The cards were flipped and the race was on with Deeter's KQ against 10's.  A king on the turn brought Deeter a huge triple-up pushing him to the 400k chip mark.

Event 16: Kerstetter v Diaz

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Another interesting third round match is between Jamie Kerstetter and David Diaz.

Jamie Kerstetter v David Diaz

Jamie Kerstetter is the only woman to ever cash in any Borgata Open Heads Up tournament.  She made it to the quarter-finals during the 2011 Fall Open ($3,638) before losing to Alex Queen, who eventually won that event ($29,098).

David Diaz won his first bracelet during the 2011 WSOP in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Triple Chance event ($352,808).  Since 2008, he has amassed more than $1 million in tournament earnings.

The winners of the third round matches will be in the quarter-finals and also will be in the money.

Event 15: Say Hello to My Little Friend

Vinni Pamico from Bayonne, NJ will be a tough enough out in this tournament.  But we would suggest that getting his chips will be even more difficult.

Let's just say they're guarded very well.....

Event 15: In the Tank with Fishooks

Faced with an opponent who had pushed all-in twice already in the last few hands, Mikhail Sher (Philadelphia, PA) had his bet re-raised all-in and was put to the test.

After nearly four minutes in the tank, Sher decided to make the call and flipped over his Jacks vs KQ♠.  A harmless board ran out and Sher added to his growing stack.  He now stands at 490,000.

Event 16: Panayiotou def Diamond

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Eric Panayiotou v David Inselberg

Eric Panayiotou beat Elon Diamond in round two to advance to round three and is now embroiled in his third round match with David 'ColdStone' Inseleberg.

Event 15: Going for Two

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Ladies Champion Ruth Ruffman is at it again.  The Event 8 winner is trying to take down this open field and is in a strong position sitting with 575,000 in chips.

When asked if she was going for two, she replied "Isn't that the object?"

Ruth Ruffman - Colts Neck, NJ

Event 15: Dropping Like Flies

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 19:  Blinds 5k/10k with 1k ante.

After a color-up break, play has resumed.

They're already down to 16 tables (160 players).  Average stack is 193k.

Only 120 get paid.  A min-cash is good for $413, with $51,588 waiting for the eventual winner.

Event 15: Déjà Vu Part Two

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

With tables breaking, players are randomly assigned to empty seats at the remaining tables.

Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ) has landed at the same table with chip leader Pofuk Ying.  Phung happens to be the player that beat Ying heads-up in this event during the Summer Open.  Phung took first and $33,573.  Now they're sharing the same patch of felt again.

Ying is still the chip leader and just won another big pot.

On the river with a board of T73♣ 9♣ 2♣ , Ying (sb) bet, got one player to fold, then got raised by the player on the button.  After giving it some thought, Ying made the call.

His opponent showed pocket 5s.  Ying rolled over pocket 9s for a set to take that pot.  He's now chipped up to about 820k.

Event 16: Coon Moves To Round 3

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Jeffrey Coon has just defeated Paul Cheung, and is now on to Round 3.  The only Round 2 match left to be finished is Elon Diamond v. Eracles Panayiotou.  Here is a list of the rest of the Round 3 match ups:

Jesse James v. Kyle Frey
David Diaz v. Jamie Kerstetter
Trevor Savage v. Alex Phahurat
Aaron Massey v. Vinny Pahuja
Max Steinberg v. Shawn Busse
Phillip Reed v. Joshua Templeton
Jeffrey Coon v. Scott Gallant

Event 15: All-Ins Abound

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

The all-ins are coming at a rapid pace as the blinds are forcing the action.

After a player opened, Nancy Martin moved in from the big blind.  The opener called, showing pocket Kings.

Nancy had AT and needed help to survive, but got none on the board.

One table over, David Zeitlin was all-in, but got no takers.

Tables are breaking quickly.  Down to 18 tables (180 players).

Event 16: Two More Move On

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Two more matches have just ended:

Shawn Busse def. Jeffery Mcalister
Jamie Kerstetter def. Andre Boyer

Event 15: Déjà Vu All Over Again

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 18:  Blinds 4k/8k with 1k ante.

Less than 24 hours ago,  Brian O'Donoghue (Bayside, NY) and Kenny Nguyen (Orlando, FL) were battling heads-up at the final table of event 10.

Brian O'Donoghue & Kenny 'Super Tuan' Nguyen

They didn't take much time off before returning for another event today, which began about 12 hours after they completed their final table.

Brian had the chip lead when they got heads up and Kenny couldn't overcome it.  They finished 1st & 2nd for $50,132 and $28,187, respectively.

Event 15: Chip Leader

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Pofuk Ying

With 21 tables remaining, it looks like Pofuk Ying (Highland Park, NJ) is the chip leader with about 465k.

Ying barely missed winning this event during the 2012 Borgata Summer Open less than three months ago.  He finished 2nd for $19,538.

He also narrowly missed winning the $170 No Limit event during the 2010 Borgata Winter Open.  That second-place finish was good for $25,848.

Event 16: Savage Continues On

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Trevor Savage just defeated Michael Marder in a three game match in the second round.  Trevor will move on to face Alex Phahurat.  Every player that wins their third round match will then be in the money, as this event pays 8 spots.

Event 15: Frequent Fliers

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 17:  Blinds 3k/6k with 500 ante.

22 tables remain, leaving 220 players in the hunt.  Only the top 120 get paid, so 100 more will leave empty-handed.

Lots of Borgata regulars and BPO frequent fliers still in action:

Pasquale Boffice
Ricardo Velasco

John Alfera
Vyacheslav Eyzerovich
Richie Rubenstein
Demetrios Georgous

Event 14 PLO Recap

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Both Ryan Waddell (Downingtown, PA) and Ian Graham (Brooklyn, NY) are PLO 8 specialists, but there could only be one winner.  In the end Waddell's 2-to-1 chip lead was too much for Graham to overcome as he wins this event for the second time.

"In the spring I played really well," says Waddell, who won this event in April during the Borgata Spring Poker Open. "This tournament I ran really well against a much tougher field and got lucky in a couple of spots."

Waddell and third place finisher Ryan Gelsomino (Deerfield Beach, FL) traded the chip lead back and forth while three-handed before Graham knocked out Gelsomino to get heads up with Waddell.

"I'm not satisfied with anything but first," says Graham, a PLO 8 cash game heads up specialist. "Unfortunately the blinds are so high it's an all in fest.  You have to go with almost any hand and hope to get lucky."

There was nothing but bad luck for WSOP bracelet holders "Miami John" Cernuto (Las Vegas, NV) and Ylon Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY) who were both knocked out by chip leader Haechul Cho (Ridgefield, NJ) in 18th and 17th places respectively. They were part of the 18 players who made the money and returned for Day 2.

Cho eventually dispersed his chips around the table and gave Graham a key double-up before he sputtered to an 8th place finish.  The final table also featured Borgata regulars Joel Salman (4th), Jeff Hunter (5th) and John McCarthy (9th).

The field began with 105 players who put up a total buy-in of $36,750. Recognizable names who failed to cash included WSOP bracelet holders Allen Cunningham and Chris Reslock, two time Borgata trophy winners Barry Levy and Manh Nguyen, and Allen "Chainsaw"" Kessler.

But in the end it's two PLO 8 pros who are heads up and it's Waddell who earned his bookend trophy.

On the final hand Waddell defeated Graham with A♠ 2♣ for the low, and eights full of kings for the high to win $10,693 to go along with his ~$10,000 score in April.

Final Table Results

Position-Name-Amount

1 Ryan Waddell (Downingtown, PA) $10,693
2 Ian Graham (Brooklyn, NY) $5,882
3 Ryan Gelsomino (Deerfield Beach, FL) $3,387

5 Jeff Hunter (Bronx, NY) $2,139
6 George Fotiadis (New Windor, NY) $1,782
7 Jim Martini (Incline Village, NV) $1,426
8 Haechul Cho (Ridgefield, NJ) $1,069
9 John McCarthy (Norwich, CT) $802

Event 16: Never Ending Story

$2000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

The match between Maccaroni and Erades has been going on for well over two hours, and was deadlocked at 1-1 (best of three matchup).  It looks though as if Erades has just ended the match and moved on to Round 2 to face Elon Diamond.

Event 14 PLO Winner - Waddell

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

 Ryan Waddell (Downingtown, PA)
$10,693

Ryan Waddell defeats Ian Graham heads up to win the title, the trophy and the cash.

Final hand, blinds 20k/40k:

Waddell: A♠ 8♠ 8 2♣
Graham: 7♣ 6 97♠

Board: 3♣ 8 K K♣ 6♠

Waddell gets the scoop with A 2 for the low, and eights full of kings for the high to take the last of Graham's 200k.

Waddell earns $10,693 for the win, his second Borgata victory in this event after winning in April during the Borgata Spring Poker Open for nearly $10,000.

"In the spring I played really well," says Waddell, who plays the game full time professionally. "This tournament I ran really well against a much tougher field and got lucky in a couple of spots."

Waddell says he's going to take a few days off before deciding if he'll play in the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship.  "I told myself if I ship this I'm going to play main, but I don't want to think about it right now, we'll see."

Event 14: PLO 2nd Place - Graham

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Ian Graham (Brooklyn, NY)
$5,882

On the final hand Graham is beaten by the A 2 low and the full house high of Ryan Waddell to finish runner-up for $5,882.

Final hand, blinds 20k/40k:
Waddell: A♠ 8♠ 8 2♣
Graham: 7♣ 6 97♠
Board: 3♣ 8 K K♣ 6♠

Graham began heads up play at nearly a 2-to-1 deficit and is cut down to 200k when he's quartered  on a hand be fore eventually getting knocked out.

"I'm not satisfied with anything but first," says Graham, a PLO 8 cash game heads up specialist. "Unfortunately the blinds are so high it's an all in fest.  You have to go with almost any hand and hope to get lucky."

Graham has been playing poker professionally since graduating from Skidmore College. He says he got his online start when he spent several months sailing around the Bahamas.

Event 12: Winner - Sun

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Grace Sun (Merrick, NY)
Event 12 Winner - $26,866

A few years ago Grace was a financial planner, and then she turned her interest and profession to poker.  Since last April she has cashed in 11 events here at the Borgata, including a runner-up finish in last summer's $550 No Limit Hold'em Bounty Event ($22,467).  She already final tabled one event in this series (Ladies No Limit Hold'em), and now has a new trophy for her mantle.

Event 14: PLO Heads Up Underway

 $350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Ian Graham (Brooklyn, NY) and Ryan Waddell (Downingtown, PA) are heads up for the trophy and the $10,693 first prize.

Waddell has the chip lead 825k to 435k; the runner-up takes home $5,882.

Event 12: Runner-Up - Lavecchia

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Patrick Lavecchia (Philadelphia, PA)
$16,449

Patrick had lost his chip lead to Grace and was working on chipping back up, but lost a sizable pot when Grace rivered a straight and Patrick called her 400,000 river bet with a hand unknown.  On the final hand of the tournament Grace opened on the button and Lavecchia flatted:

Flop: Q 4 A

Grace again fired out 205,000 and was called by Lavecchia.

Turn: A

The action went check-check on the turn.

River: A

Grace bet out 350,000 and Lavecchia thought briefly before declaring himself all in.  Sun snap called and turned over A 5 for quads.  Lavecchia had K Q, and the full house wasn't nearly enough.

Lavecchia, who is also a successful cash player, takes home $16,449 and the unfortunate title of runner-up.  Lavecchia doesn't have any plans set in stone for the rest of this series, but will be spending sometime enjoying this cash, and playing it by ear.

Event 14: PLO 3rd Place - Gelsomino

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Ryan Gelsomino (Deerfield Beach, FL)
$3,387

While three-handed Gelsomino and Ryan Waddell trade the chip lead back and forth before Gelsomino is sent packing by Ian Graham.

On Gelsomino's final hand he and Graham have identical 200k stacks with Graham winning the pot with a full house and no low.

Graham begins heads up play trailing nearly 2-to-1 in chips.

Event 12: Lavecchia Doubles Up

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Lavecchia has just doubled up and now taken a small chip lead.  On a board of Q J 6 K all of the chips got in the middle.  Grace Sun had flopped top two with Q J, but Lavecchia turned the straight showing 9 10.  Lavecchia now has just under 1,900,000, holding only a slim lead over Sun.

Event 12: Blinds Up, Heads Up

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Grace Sun and Pat Lavecchia Heads Up

Level 20 has just started with the blinds going up to 25,000/50,000/5,000, and all the orange (1,000) chips have been taken off the table.  Grace Sun has over a 2 to 1 chip lead now on Lavecchia, holding 2,600,000.  She has seemed to turn on the aggression with this disparaging chip lead, firing big bets on the turn two hands in a row to clear even more space between Lavecchia and her.

Event 14: PLO 4th Place - Salman

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Joel Salman (Oceanside, NY)
$2,852

Salman's run comes to an end at the hands of Ryan Gelsomino who now has a commanding chip lead.

Final Three Chip Counts

Gelsomino 815k
Ian Graham  210k
Ryan Waddell 235k

Event 12: Heads Up Chip Counts

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Heads up chip counts:

Patrick Lavecchia - 2,100,000
Grace Sun - 1,700,000

Event 12: 3rd Place - Rocha

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Alex Rocha (South Setauket, NY)
3rd Place - $12,501

Alex's final hand was only window dressing after the hand prior against Patrick Lavecchia.  In a blind v. blind situation, they both called the 40,000 and went to the flop.  The flop came out 6h 5d Qs and Lavecchia bet out 55,000.  After the 4h spiked the turn, Rocha once again flatted Lavecchia's bet (which was 105,000).  We went to the river which was the 3c, and there was now four cards to a straight on board.  Lavecchia's line then changed as he checked the river, and he watched as Rocha fired out 275,000.  Lavecchia answered back with a check raise all-in (834,000), and Rocha was left to tank.  He took his time thinking before deciding to call, and said to Lavecchia, "You have 7 8?"  Patrick shook his head yes and tabled the hand, as Rocha showed 5 7 for the seven high straight.  Normally some would just say tough beat, but Rocha was bothered by his misstep.  He even said aloud, "You're only doing that with 7-8, you would never do that with just a seven and you weren't running some kamikaze bluff."  It's tough to be hard on yourself with a hand like that, but Alex still takes home $12,501 for third place and his efforts.

Event 15: Poker Room Update

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

There are still seven tournament tables down here in the poker room with several Borgata tournament regulars:

Keith Crowder
Barry Levy
Manh Nguyen
Eric Natishvili
Brian Mooney

They're on a break now at the end of the level and are relocating up to the event center.

Event 14: PLO 5th Place - Hunter

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Jeff Hunter (Bronx, NY)
$2,139

Hunter moves the last of his 58k all in but is no match for  Ryan Waddell who has the nut low and a pair of threes.  Hunter is out in 5th place, while Waddell is the overwhelming chip leader with 730k.

Event 12: Level Up (Chip Counts)

$350 + 50 Six Mix No Limit Hold'em

Level 19 has just started with blinds going up to 20,000/40,000/4,000, and the tides have seemed to turn a little, as Grace Sun now has a commanding chip lead.  Here are the updated counts:

Grace Sun - 1,800,000
Alex Rocha - 1,100,000
Pat Levecchia - 890,000

Event 12: Playing In Deep End

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

We are still three handed, as chips seem to be shifting around the table.  These are quality players with stacks that are almost 40 big blinds deep, so we don't expect a fast paced conclusion to this event.  Alex Rocha has gained the chip lead he lost earlier, and Grace Sun is still shortest of the three left.

Event 14: PLO 6th Place - Fotiadis

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

 George Fotiadis (New Windor, NY)
$1,782

Fotiadis is on the rail thanks to a scoop by Ryan Waddell.

Fotiadis: A A♣ 9 7♠
Waddell: A♠ J♣ 8♣ 4♠

Board: 8 9♣ 5♣ 10 2♣

Fotiadis picks up a flush draw on the turn, but the river card gives Waddell the flush and the knockout to take his stack to 575k.

Fotiadis is out in 6th place.

Event 12: Three Handed Chip Counts

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Here are your updated chip counts for three-handed play:

Event 16: March Madness Underway

$2000 + $150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

(l-r) Austen Johnson, Matt Maccaroni, Cherish Andrews,
John Allan Hinds & Jamie Kerstetter
(All But Hinds are in the field)

The first round of the NCAA basketball tournament format is underway. Cherish Andrews and Jamie Kerstetter, who cashed in this event during the 2011 Borgata Fall Poker Open, are the only two women in the field.

The following players have a bye into the second round:

Andre Boyer
Brian Coen
Jeffrey Coon
David Diaz
Kyle Frey
Adam Gerber
Derrick Huang
Jesse James
Ronald Kaleal
Vinny Pahuja
Trevor Savage
Max Steinberg

Event 12: 4th Place - Hwang

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Robert Hwang (Barnegat, NJ)
4th Place - $10,143

Robert was the short stack for a chunk of time at this final table, and "Action Bob" just couldn't seem to gain any traction.  He pushed under the gun for his last 300,000 and was called by Patrick Lavecchia out of the big blind.  It was the A Q of Lavecchia against the suited A 5 of Action Bob.  There was no sweat for Bob as Lavecchia turned three queens to end any chance of Bob winning the hand.  He takes home 4th place and $10,143.

Event 12: Clock Please

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Another big pot brewing between Alex Rocha and Grace Sun as we walk up the hand already on the flop.  The board was Qh Qs 3h and Grace was staring Rocha's three bet right in the face.  Rocha had orginally made a 59,000 bet, and was raised to 159,000 by grace.  Alex the followed with a three bet to 340,000, and Grace tanked long enough to Robet Hwang to call clock.  Grace took her full allotted time and then folded the hand.  Grace is now below 1 million.

Event 14: PLO 7th Place - Martini

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Jim Martini (Incline Village, NV)
$1,426

Ryan Waddell takes out Jim Martini when Martini gets his last 130k all in with Q J 8 5 against Waddell's A 10 9 8.

The board is A Q J 3 K, where the river king gives Waddell Broadway and the scoop.

Event 16: Heads Up Bracket

$2000 + $150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Tournament Officials Draw Names for the Bracket
as Dave Inselberg Watches (right)

The largest buy-in of the series to date is set to get underway as the heads up bracket is being filled in.

This is an NCAA basketball tournament style bracket, where winners move on, losers go home.
The only difference is that each round is a best of three games.

Players in the field include Christian Harder, Matt Maccaroni, Daniel Buzgon, David Inselberg, Vinny Pahuja and John Racener.

Once the bracket is set, players start with 20k in chips and levels will be 20 minutes long (finals 30 minutes each).  It's a two-day event with a maximum of 64 players.

Event 12: Updated Chip Counts

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Updated chip counts:

Alex Rocha - 1,100,000
Bob Hwang - 400,000
Grace Sun - 1,200,000
Patrick Lavecchia - 1,000,000

Event 14: PLO 8th Place - Cho

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

 (Photo Unavailable, Camera Shy)

Haechul Cho (Ridgefield, NJ)
$1,069

Cho, the start of Day 2 chipleader, sees a quick fall after shipping a 59k double-up to Ian Graham.

On a flop of J♣ 8♣ 6, Jim Martini opens the betting to 17k, Cho calls and Graham moves all in for 59k.

Waddell folds and Cho calls.

Cho: A♣ 2♠ 2♣ 6♠
Graham: A♠ 6♣ 3 8

Final Board: J♣ 8♣ 6 8 10♠

There's no low hand, so Graham gets the scoop with a full house, eights full of sixes.

After that Cho disperses his chips around the table and is out in 8th place.  The remaining seven stacks are all very even and in the 150k to 250k range (15-25 BB)

Blinds are 5k/10k.

Event 12: Lavecchia Chips Up

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Lavecchia opened up the pot for a 32,000 raise, and Rocha three bet out of the big blind to 69,000.  Lavecchia called and the flop ran out Ah As 6c, and Rocha fired out a 57,000 bet that was called again by Lavecchia.  After the turn brought the 5h, Rocha again fired out, this time for 83,000.  Lavecchia took a moment before announcing a raise and putting out 176,000.  Rocha folded and Patrick chipped up to about 600,000.  Robert Hwang is still our short stack at the table, and is sitting with just over 200,000.

Event 14: PLO 9th Place - McCarthy

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

John McCarthy (Norwich, CT)
$802

Event 14: PLO 10th Place - Pender

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Josh Pender (Knoxville, TN)
$713

Event 12: Amazing Grace

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

It was bound that the two big stacks would tangle, and Grace Sun ended up on the better end of that battle.  On a flop of 8d 6h 3h, Alex bet out 35,000 and was raised to 110,000 by Sun.  Alex took his time making the call, and the action went check-check when the 8h hit the turn.  That card completed any flush draws and also paired the board.  On the river the 6d hit, and the board was now showing two pair.  Grace put out a 105,000 bet and Alex raised her to 255,000.  Sun cut out her chips and thought for a little before announced a three bet to 525,000.  Rocha folded and Grace has now assumed the chip leader with 1,700,000.

Event 14: PLO Final Table

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Seat-Name

1 Ian Graham (Brooklyn, NY)
2 Josh Pender (Knoxville, TN)
3 Joel Salman (Oceanside, NY)
4 Jeff Hunter (Bronx, NY)
5 John McCarthy (Norwich, CT)
6 George Fotiadis (New Windor, NY)
7 Ryan Waddell (Downingtown, PA)
8 Jim Martini (Incline Village, NV)
9 Ryan Gelsomino (Deerfield Beach, FL)
10 Haechul Cho (Ridgefield, NJ)

Event 12: Four Handed Counts

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Here are the counts with four remaining:

Robert Hwang - 200,000
Patrick Lavecchia - 530,000
Grace Sun - 1,220,000
Alex Rocha - 1,800,000

Event 14: PLO 11th Place - Dayton

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

John Dayton (East Hampton, NY)
$713

Event 12: 5th Place - Del Rossi

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

John Del Rossi (Mantua, NJ)
5th Place - $7,841

The time was now for Del Rossi if he wanted to get himself back in the mix.  With the blinds at 8/16k Del Rossi got all his chips in against Alex Rocha, which throughout both days of this event has been bad news.  Del Rossi (A 5) was behind the suited A J of Rocha, and although Del Rossi flopped the ace with a gut shot wheel draw, it wasn't to be.  Del Rossi is seemingly cashing regularly at these Borgata Poker Open's, and we expect to see more of him in the near future.

Event 14: PLO 12th Place - Loguidice

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

 Joe Loguidice (Atlantic City, NJ)
 $713

Event 12: Break Time

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Players are currently on a 10 minute break, and when they return the blinds will be 8,000/16,000.  Rocha and Sun are still neck and neck for the chip lead.  John Del Rossi is now the short stack at the table, but these are very deep in proportion to blinds.

Event 14: PLO 13th Place - Campbell

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Alan Campbell (North Chesterfield, VA)
$624

Event 12: Lavecchia Doubles Through

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

John Del Rossi opened the pot for 25,000 from the hi-jack, and after Grace Sun folded Patrick Lavecchia went all-in from the small blind.  Hwang folded and Del Rossi made the call for 280,000, and it was the A A of Lavecchia against the 4 4 of Del Rossi.  Lavecchia never relinquished the lead and doubled up to over 570,000.

Event 12: 6th Place - MacPherson

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Ky Macpherson (Austin, TX)
6th Place - $5,647

Event 12: Updated Chip Counts

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Updated final table chip counts:

John Del Rossi - 580,000
Grace Sun - 990,000
Patrick Lavecchia - 300,000
Robert Hwang - 545,000
Ky Machpherson - 260,000
Alex Rocha - 1,100,000

Event 14: PLO 14th Place - Quimby

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Steve Quimby
$624

Event 12: 7th Place - Commisso

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Joe Commisso (Philadelphia, PA)
7th Place - $4,112

With blinds at 6k/12k/2k, the action folded around to Grace Sun in the small blind.  She raised to 30,000, and Commisso then pushed all in for his last 174,000.  Grace called and it was a race between Sun's pocket fives and the 8 9 suited of Commisso.  Joe whiffed the flop and couldn't find any help on the turn or river.  He will be taking home $4,112 for his 7th place finish.  Grace Sun is now just behind Alex Rocha for the final table chip lead.

Event 12: 8th Place - Isles

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Matthew Isles (Atco, NJ)
8th Place - $2,741

It was Rocha again who would continue his great run knocking out Isles.  Isles was crippled the hand prior when he lost an all-in with deuces to the A 3 of Ky Macpherson.  This event's final table is not set a seven players, and we will bring you updated chip counts shortly.

Event 14: PLO 15 Place - Dennis

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Monty Dennis (Tucker, GA)
$624

Event 12: 9th Place - Wilensky

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Dawn Wilensky (Melville, NY)
9th Place - 1,645

Dawn's luck finally ran out, as this time she was the one who took the lead on the flop only to see her chances to continue end.  Dawn had Q J against the A 9 of diamonds of Grace Sun.  It was an action flop with Dawn flop top two pair on a Qd 10c Jd board.  She had a lot to fade as Sun flopped the nut flush and gut shot broadway draw.  Sun spoked a diamond on the turn, and Wilensky could not fill up. She will take home $1,645 for her 9th place finish.

Event 12: Nine Lives

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Dawn Wilensky (Melville, NY) seems to have "nine lives" as she was all-in twice, and both times in pretty bad shape on the turn.  She was saved by the river twice:

Sun: 4 5          Wilensky: Q 10

Flop: 9 9 4

Turn: 9

River: 4

Wilensky survives and gets her chips back as the board reads a full house on the river, and her and Sun chop the pot.

Then in a blind v. blind situation Wilensky was all-in against Del Rossi:

Wilensky: Jc 9c          Del Rossi: As Jh

Flop: Qc 8c 8d

Turn: 8h

River: 6c

Wilensky makes her flush on the river and doubles up to 265k.

Event 14: PLO 16th Place - Patten

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

 Steve Patten (Springfield, VA)
$535

Event 12: 10th Place - Torres

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Alex Torres (Cliffside Park, NJ)
10th Place - $1,316

Joe Commisso (Philadelphia, PA) opened the pot for a raise, and was subsequently three bet all-in by Alex Torres.  Commisso called and showed his A K off, while Alex Torres tables A 7 off.  The both flopped an ace, but Torres still needed some help to continue on in this event.  After the turn the board read out A 3 4 2, so Torres did gain some chop outs, but a brick on the river would give Commisso the pot.

Event 12: 11th Place - Wong ($1,645)

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

She Lok Wong (Queens, NY) came in as our short stack today, and had a mountain to climb in order to get back in contention.  It was only four hands before Grace Sun (Merrick, NY) would send Lok home.  Wong takes home $1,645 for the 11th place finish.

Event 14: WSOP Bracelet Winners on Rail

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

Chip leader Haechul Cho gets back-to-back knockouts as he sends two WSOP bracelet holders to the rail.

First out is three-time winner "Miami John" Cernuto (Las Vegas, NV) who finishes in 18th place.  Ylon Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY), who won his bracelet this summer, is next to go in 17th.

Both players earn $535.

Event 12: Back In Action

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

Final Two Tables Get Started

The chips were emptied from the bags, and the remaining players have commenced action in this six max event.  Alex Rocha (South Setauket, NY) comes back as the chip leader with 924,000, but this is truly anyone's event to win.

Event 14: Another Day, Another Winner

$350 + $50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

The remaining 18 players are back and all in the money ($535 min cash) as they chase the $10,693 top prize.  Haechul Cho (Ridgefield, NJ) has the chip lead with 147k (37 BB).

The average stack is 70k (18 BB) as play resumes with blinds at 2k/4k.

Event 14: Day 2 Begins Shortly

$350 + 50 Pot Limit Omaha 8B

The 18 players who remained from yesterday's PLO 8B will be starting back up in about ten minutes (1:00 pm).  Haechul Cho (Ridgefield, NJ) comes into Day 2 with the chip lead, but has some very formidable competition left to battle with.  "Miami" John Cernuto (Las Vegas, NV) and Ylon Schwartz  (Brooklyn, NY) will likely have something to say before the day is over.

Event 15: Former Winners

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

 Watters & Cillo

The last two winners of this tournament are not only back to try and win again, but they're good friends.

Mike Watters (Middle Village, NY) won the $100,000 Guarantee last year for $35,000, while Justin Cillo (Brooklyn, NY) took it down in 2010 for $51,974.

The players are part of another massive field as we've hit our first break of the day.

Watters says the key to his success was a dicey hand where he said, "screw it, call," which propelled him to the win.  Both players don't expect the one-day tournament to end before 6 am Thursday morning.

Event 15: Seat Open!

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Alvarez & McColgan

Lots of cries for, "seat open," as players look to quickly build a big stack or jump back into the re-entry line.

Gilbert Alvarez (Montgomery, NY), gets a nice healthy double-up with pocket jacks when the board is 10 9 8 7 6 and he ends up with a higher straight to cripple two players. There are currently two open seats on Table 18 where Alvarez and his neighbor Kevin McColgan (Douglassville, PA) are looking for new victims.

Level 3 (75/150) continues.

Event 15: Right Seat, Wrong Tournament?

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Mixed game and PLO specialist Barry Levy (Brooklyn, NY) is walking into the Event Center with a ticket for the no limit tournament and you have to wonder if he's in the right event.

"What do you want me to do," says the two time Borgata trophy winner, "life's short."

Levy sees good value and even though no limit isn't his specialty is taking his crack at the $100,000 guarantee.

    Event 13 Recap

Event 13 - $350+50 Seniors (50+) No Limit Hold 'Em

A crazy late night run of cards and a WSOP Main Event Final Table player couldn't stop Bobby Cooper (Las Vegas, NV) from claiming his first major title in Event 13.

Facing an eclectic group of players including Al Krux (Syracuse, NY), Bobby Cooper survived an incredible roller coaster ride and found cards at the right time to steal the victory.  With seven player remaining, Cooper pulled out a win holding A9 vs. AK and set the pace for what would be a whirlwind of eliminations and mind-boggling hands throughout the rest of the tournament.

Once Larry Gabrielov (Virginia Beach, VA) was eliminated in 7th after making a call with second pair against Billy Eitze's top pair, the flood gates opened.  Joe Bridnisi (Doylestown, PA) appeared to have taken control of the table hitting two three-outers to knock Tony Palladino (Franklin Lakes, NJ) and Scott Conner (Pittsburgh, PA).

Once Bill Eitze (Ellicott City, MD) had taken out Paul Aviloa (Westbury, MA) in 4th, Cooper came from far behind in the chip count to take command of the table.  Cooper hit a miracle 7 on the river against Eitze to cripple him and get back into the three-handed battle.  Cooper then left Joe Bridnisi on life support packing pocket queens against Bridnisi's 4's and put the tournament away.

The patient Cooper ended up with the victory and $22,530.

    Final Table Results
1- Bobby Cooper (Las Vegas, NV) - $22,530
    2 - Joe Bridnisi (Doylestown, PA) - $13,276
    3 - Bill Eitze (Ellicott City, MD) - $7,644
    4 - Paul Aviloa (Westbury, MA) - $6,196
    5 - Scott Conner (Pittsburgh, PA) -$4,828
    6 - Tony Palladino (Franklin Lakes, NJ) - $4,023
    7 - Larry Gabrielov (Virginia Beach, VA) - $3,218
    8 - Al Krux (Syracuse, NY) - $2,414
    9 - Richard Caplan (Fairhaven, NJ) - $1,609
    10 - Pete Mylenki (Absecon, NJ) - $1,046

Event 13: Bobby Cooper Takes Down Seniors Event

$350+50 Seniors (50+) No Limit Hold 'Em

1st Place - Bobby Cooper (Las Vegas, NV) - $22,530

In a stunning comeback that took place in a matter of minutes, Cooper went from the short stack three-handed to Borgata Poker Open Seniors Champion.  Pulling off a miracle with a river 7 to catch trips to put over the million chip mark and then using pocket queens to crush runner-up Joe Brindisi and open a massive chip lead, Cooper finished the job and took down his first major title and $22,530.

When asked what he was going to do with the money, Cooper replied that he has a baby on the way and his winning will help when his new child arrives.  And he's not so worried about the taxes on the winnings as much as the Social Security!

Congratulations to Bobby Cooper - your Event 13 Champion!

    Event 13: Joe Brindisi - 2nd Place

$350+50 Senior (50+) No Limit Hold Em (Re-entry)

    2nd Place - Joe Brindisi (Doylestown, PA) - $13,276

Congratulations to our 2nd Place finisher in Event 13: Joe Brindisi of Doylestown, PA.  Brindisi picked up $13,276 for taking down the runner-up finish.

    Event 13: Bill Eitze - 3rd Place

$350+50 Senior (50+) No Limit Hold Em (Re-entry)

3rd Place - Bill Eitze (Ellicott City, MD) - $7,644

Congratulations to Bill Eitze - Event 13 3rd Place finisher.  Eitze wins $7,644 for his efforts tonight.

Event 13: Two Specatular Hands Turn the Tide

$350+50 Senior (50+) No Limit Hold Em (Re-entry)

It seemed like Joe Brindisi had this event well under control.  But then a tidal wave with Bobby Cooper's (Las Vegas, NV) name on it struck the table.

First, Bobby locked up with Bill Eitze.  On a flop of 5KA, both players checked.  A seven on the turn brought the decisive action.  Eitze bet out and Cooper went over the top with an all-in bet.  Eitze snap-called and turned over K4 - top pair - against Cooper's 3-7.  But a miracle 7 hit the river and Cooper doubled up.

Then Cooper caught Brindisi going all-in with 4's while Cooper held QQ.  Cooper hit a Q on the flop to seal the deal and jumped to over 2 million in chips and dominated the table.

Event 13: Aviloa's Night Ends in 4th Place

$350+50 Senior (50+) No Limit Hold Em (Re-entry)

    4th Place - Paul Aviloa (Westbury, MA) - $6,196

Normally, A5 is going to be tough to beat four-handed.  But Bill Eitze brought a couple of ladies to the fight flipping up pocket queens.  A harmless board of 3-2-3-2-K ended the string of three-outers at the table and Paul Aviloa is your 4th place finisher in the Seniors Event.
