Event 1: Numbers Game

Approximately 800 players remain of the 1,559 who began the day and they're split between the Event Center and the Poker Room.
With nearly 39 million chips in play, a quick run of the numbers has the average stack at 49k (49 BB) as blinds are moving up to 500/1k/100 ante.
The tournament organizers are stressing to players that anyone who is eliminated today and planning on playing Day 1B that they should register tonight.
300 players are already for registered for tomorrow and the lines are expected to be crazy.
Registration in the Event Center is open until midnight.

Down in the Poker Room, tables are breaking fast. 34 are still in action down here.
No longer among the active is Manh Nguyen, 2-time Borgata Open winner (2012 Spring Open, $350 Black Chip Bounty, good for $30k & 2011 BPO $500 NL, for almost $40k).
After a middle position player opened for 1,325 and got one caller, the button raised to 5k.
Manh (bb) 4-bet for 12k, sending the opener in to the tank. He eventually folded, as did the caller.
The button then spent some time in the tank before deciding to 5-bet enough to cover Manh's remaining stack. Manh obliged by putting his chips all-in and rolling over two red 6s.
His opponent was trailing with A9 offsuit.
Then board ran out K Q 9 7 3, which looked good for Manh, but when the fourth spade landed on the river, his opponent made a flush to take the pot.
Manh is done for today, but we'll see him back tomorrow for day 1b. He summed it up in his Tweet:

Boyle, who is a past winner of the Borgata Leaderboard promotion, and Gordon Eng (Cliffside Park, NJ), nearly $800,00 in career tournament earnings, are surveying the field and trading barbs with players still playing Day 1A

As Level 3 (75/150) winds down, Mike Magor (Woodmere,NY) flop quads while holding pocket 2s, but says he may have to work on his acting. He says he was "Hollywooding" on the river knowing he had the stone cold nuts and eventually put his opponent all in.
"How often do you get to do it," says Magor, who cracks pocket aces. His opponent snap calls after flopping a full house aces full of twos, but it's no match for four quacking ducks.
Magor is up to 47k.

Event 1: Toby Takes One Down

The one player per hand rule is being waived on Table 56 as Holly Gilman (Westerly, RI) is getting help from Toby, a stuffed raccoon.
"I saw him in a kids store and I had to have him," she says after crippling her opponent with Q♦ Q♣.
After being raised on the turn with the board showing 4 ♦ 10♠ 3♦ 10♥, Gilman leads out for 9,100 and the raiser snap calls and mucks the losing hand.
"I'm obsessed with him," she says, adding that Toby is now his "run good" good luck charm who is starting to get evil looks from the other players at the table. Toby and Gilman are up to 36k.

The one player per hand rule is being waived on Table 56 as Holly Gilman (Westerly, RI) is getting help from Toby, a stuffed raccoon.
"I saw him in a kids store and I had to have him," she says after crippling her opponent with Q♦ Q♣.
After being raised on the turn with the board showing 4 ♦ 10♠ 3♦ 10♥, Gilman leads out for 9,100 and the raiser snap calls and mucks the losing hand.
"I'm obsessed with him," she says, adding that Toby is now his "run good" good luck charm who is starting to get evil looks from the other players at the table. Toby and Gilman are up to 36k.

Players are gearing up to take multiple shots as there are plenty of re-entry opportunities over the two starting days.
"As many as it takes," says Austen Johnson (Woodsboro, MD), a former Borgata Leaderboard Open winner (June, 2011), who plans on re-entering if necessary. "Put it this way, I'll be playing Day 2 no matter what. There's too much value."
