David Diaz pulled off the win in the rubber match, beating Jamie Kerstetter.

Day One is done and the quarter-final matches are set.  Day Two play will begin at 1pm Thursday.

Eric Panayiotou v Kyle Frey
David Diaz v Alex Phahurat
Aaron Massey v Shawn Busse
Joshua Templeton v Jeffrey Coon

All eight of these player are in the money and guaranteed to earn at least $5,044.

Event 15: Bent Busted

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Steve Bent aka 'White Al Roker' just busted out when his AT was out-flopped by a player holding A2.

Yes, a 2 flopped.  Steve finished 36th for $924

A short while ago, Manh Nguyen got his last chips in with AQ, but ran into pocket Aces.  He finished 49th for $694.

Also gone:

Ruth Ruffman

35 players remain.  Average stack is 884k.

Event 15: McNally Climbing

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Rich McNally (Long Island, NY) was down to 80k just a short while ago.

Rich McNally

Then he busted Borgata regular Brian Mooney.  And he recently doubled up through Sandeep Patel when he flopped a straight.

Rich is now up to over 1.3 million and climbing.

Big stack Pofuk Ying has been moved to the seat on his left.

Event 15: 45 Left

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

The break ended at 48 players left but three more went down swinging and we're now at 45 players remaining here in Event 15.

Players going out on this pay level will receive $804 for a long day's work.

Blinds are at 20k/40k with a 4k ante.

Event 15: The Ten Minute Tank

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

We predicted a collision between Pofuk Ying and Cuong Phung and it happened after the two hands with the kings at the break.

Ying and Phung already had 350k in the pot pre-flop.  The flop came 6♣K♥2♦.  Phung bet out 125k and Ying countered going all-in.  Cuong said "Really?" and so the tank started.

With the clock running into a ten minute break, Cuong continued to ponder the situation.  At about the eight minute mark, he stood up putting more brain power into his decision.  After taking one more look at his cards and thinking for another minute, Cuong threw his cards into the muck against his rival.

With only one minute to go in the break, the players never got a chance to get away from the table as Ying raked another 500k pot.

Event 15: Long Live The Kings

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Two hands before the break.  Two pairs of kings.  Two big wins.

At one table, Leroy Jones (Hollywood, FL) had kings pick off queens to eliminate a player right at the break.  It was then followed by a nearly 900k pot with Mikhail Sher picking off the AQ of Brian Mooney and leaving him crippled at 130k.

It looked the like the break was on for all the players but.......

Event 16: Busse def Steinberg

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Max Steinberg v Shawn Busse

Shawn Busse bested Max Steinberg in round three.

Busse will face Aaron Massey in the quarterfinals.

The last round three match is still in progress.

Jamie Kerstetter and David Diaz and tied at one match each and are currently playing the rubber match to determine who advances.

Event 15: What a Guy Does for a Buck

We've found our comedy table for this event.

Mikhail Sher made a massive pre-flop bet against his opponent.  While he tried to make a decision, Sher told him "If you fold, I'll show for a dollar.  If you call, you'll see them for free."

His opponent quickly folded, pulled a dollar out of his pocket and passed it down the table to a smiling Sher.  Sher turned over 8's and collected his dollar laughing all the way and bringing smiles to the table.

At the same table, Rich McNally (Long Island, NY) went from 250k to 1 million in two hands.  When we said "We hear you're on quite a run" the player to his left said "He's still running out the door."

Nothing like a little humor at 1:45 am.

Event 15: He Must Be Butter Because He's On A Roll

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Blinds 15k/30k, 4k ante.

Steve Bent

Steve Bent (Springfield, PA) aka 'White Al Roker' has taken his stack from super-short at 9k to 825k, nearly double the average, in about 25 minutes.

Event 15: It's Going Around

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

On the next table while Ying was counting his chips, another 800k encounter took place.

Monro Secor (Brooklyn, NY) managed to get it in with his KK against his opponents QQ.

The cards came out and Secor's kings held putting him at 850k and back among the contenders in the tournament.

Event 15: Huge Double Elimination for Ying

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

The biggest pot of the tournament turned into a gold mine for Pofuk Ying.

With one player already all in, Mary Ann Palm (Collingwood, NJ) and Pofuk Ying continued on in the hand.  Both checked a 5♣K♥6♥ flop.  The 6♠ hit the turn but the action was not to come until the river.

With a 4♥ on the river, Ying bet out 125k, Palm pushed all in and Ying snap-called.  Palm flipped over 78♠ for the rivered straight but Ying tabled Q9♥ for the flush and a massive victory for Ying.

With the win, Ying moved up to a staggering 2.8 million and is easily in the lead here in Event 15.

Event 15: Lady Takes a Hit

$200 + $30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

In a massive three-way pre-flop all-in, Ladies event winner Ruth Ruffman was the big stack with pocket 8s.

The short-stack in seat 2 had pocket Kings.

The medium-stack in seat 9 had AQ.

The board fell J 7 3 Q 4.

Seat 2 took the main pot, tripling up.

Seat 9 took the side pot.

Ruth was left with less than 500k.

Event 16: Panayiotou def Inselberg

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Eric Panayiotou beat David Inselberg in round three.

Eric will face Kyle Frey in the quarter-finals Thursday at 1pm.

Two third round matches are still underway:

David Diaz v. Jamie Kerstetter
Max Steinberg v. Shawn Busse

Event 15: Hari Liked the Math

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

After sitting at just 22k on the bubble Krishna Hari (Washington, DC) has stormed back with a double up, triple up and double up to push his chip stack up to 880,000.

He still has a long way to go to catch the leaders but if he keeps up the multiplication like this, an A+ is likely.

Event 12: Recap

$350 + 50 Six Max No Limit Hold'em

It was only days ago that Grace Sun (Merrick, NY) was sitting at the final table of the Ladies Event, chasing the trophy that has eluded her.  The thoughts of two runner-up finishes in Borgata Poker Open events was likely going through her mind, but it was a fourth place finish she'd walk away with.  Sun had her chance once again today best her runner-up finishes, and she finally got the win she so desperately wanted.

Grace Sun took home $28,866 in her first Borgata Poker Open event win, besting Patrick Lavecchia (Philadelphia, PA) in a heads up match that was back and forth over a 90 minute span.  "Yes!! Yes!! I did it...I won," Grace exclaimed as she went to embrace her rail.  She also got a very nice round of applause from onlookers and players sitting at surrounding tables.

Grace seemed to shift gears throughout the event, and seemed to get the breaks she needed in the most important spots.  Even going back to Day 1 where Grace was involved in a three-way all-in with none other than Patrick Lavecchia and another player.  Grace (holding Q 9) was up against the A A of Lavecchia and the J 4 of the third player.  She went on to flop a nine, and then river another nine to take down the hand and never look back.

Alex Rocha (South Setauket, NY) was the chip leader seemingly from the beginning of this event, coming into Day 2, and coming into the final table as well.  He was one of numerous notable players in this stacked field which carried 323 entries and a total buy-in of $113,050.  Of these many notables, Grace would best John Del Rossi, Robert "Action Bob" Hwuang, Joe Commisso...and this was just at the final table.

When the players were three handed (Sun, Rocha, and Lavecchia), Grace won a big hand against Rocha where she turned trips and rivered a full house.  She had Rocha raising her on the river, and eventually saw him fold to her all-in.  From then on out we seemed to see a different Grace, playing with a determined mind.

Grace is one of a few in this Borgata Poker Open to make two final tables, taking home $2,804 for her 4th place finish in Event 8 (Ladies No Limit Hold'em).  She went from financial planner to professional poker player just over a year ago, and since has had 11 casheS between the Borgata and WSOP.  We can expect to see her next week in the televised WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship event, and wish her the best of luck.

Final Table

1. "Grace" CHII CHING SUN (MERRICK, NY):  $26,866
2. PATRICK LAVECCHIA (PHILADELPHIA, PA):  $16,449
3. ALEXANDER ROCHA (SOUTH SETAUKET, NY):  $12,501
4. ROBERT HWANG (BARNEGAT, NJ):  $10,143
5. JOHN DELROSSI (MANTUA, NJ):  $7,841

10. ALEX TORRES (CLIFFSIDE PARK, NJ):  $1,316

Event 15: Ying Not Wasting Time

Despite losing his last hand, Pofuk Ying hasn't seemed to taken kindly to temporarily losing his chip lead.  Since the break, Ying has nearly doubled up and sits around 2 million in chips.

As a side note, he has already started to tussle with Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ) whom he went heads up with in this event in the Summer Open.  Phung knocked Ying off and went on to win the Summer Open Leaderboard.

Could these two be headed for another showdown?  We'll find out as the night drags on.....

Event 16: Templeton & Coon Advance

$2,000 + 150 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em

Event 15: A Perfect Ten

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

With player already all-in in front of him, Scott Latshaw (Baltimore, MD) faced another player to his left who had already put over half their chips in the pot pre-flop.  After a K-Q-7 board, Latshaw faced a second all-in and made the call.

Latshaw found himself facing an AQ to his right and K7 for two pair to his left.  Latshaw called out for the 10 and hit it eliminating two players and picking 150k in the process to add to his stack.

Event 15: Another Champ Fighting Back

$200+30 Deep Stack No Limit Hold 'Em

Event #10 Brian O'Donoghue (Bayside, NY) has also stepped it up on after the bubble.  After earlier resigning himself to a min cash and short stacked, Brian has built his stack significantly where is a now sitting at a respectable 330,000.

O'Donoghue is getting it done despite getting only about 1 hour of sleep.  Between a snoring roommate and handling all the financials from his victory early this morning, Brian is running on fumes but still playing well in this event.
